Order of the Phoenix glee
Jul. 17th, 2007 12:37 amSaw Order of the Phoenix.
So?
OMG.
I loved it.
I tolerated the first two movies, hated the third one, didn't even bother seeing the fourth one, but this one? I loved.
You know why? Because out of all of them, this was the first one that felt like a movie in its own right, not some weird and failed book illustration. And also, the screenplay achieved that ultimate goal of book adaptations: whatever it changed or cut out, it kept the spirit of the book right. I got shivers in the right places, and grinned like a loon in others, and got a little teary eyed in others.
You know what else? Somewhere, somehow, while I wasn't looking, Daniel Radcliffe learned to act. Seriously. You could have struck me down with a feather, but the boy acted. He was angry, and heart-broken, and happy, and wistful.
And it moved. It was so fluid, so filmed. It really was a 'moving picture.'
OMG. Ron! RON!!!!! Ron was in character. He was so awesome. And so was Hermione. She wasn't Mary Sue Hermione for once!
And I loved the Ron/Hermione shippy bits. All of them, but especially with Grawp.
I loved the little bits of Ginny we saw and her being good at DADA (and she was totally gealous of Cho :D)
Umbridge was suitably horrible. I hated her with a passion. The scene where she makes Harry write 'I must not tell lies' with the quill just...argh. It really had the horrible abusive vibe and I think that is why Harry could deal with it. He is an abused child and so in a way, he is used to it.
I loved the thing at the end though, when she asks him to tell Centaurs she is harmless and he looks straight at her and says 'I must not tell lies.' OMG. YES.
Sirius. I adore Sirius in canon and one of my biggest gripes with casting was that Gary Oldman was nothing like Sirius I envisioned when I read. But I loved him here, I really did. The way he pulled Harry into a hug and told him they would be a real family once this is over, the way he comforted him that he isn't bad. And of course when he came to the rescue at the Ministry.
The Twins. The Twins' exit. YES. I loved that they were comforting the little kid, too.
The DADA training was awesome.
Harry seeing Sirius dead and the aftermath.
Luna. She was incredible, pitch perfect.
Awwww, hell, the whole bloody thing.
Could it be better? Of course. But I loved it just the same.
The only thing I really missed was Harry wrecking Dumbledore's office but oh well.
I am going to reread all of HP before Saturday. If I cram, I can manage.
Oh, and I am going semi-off-line starting tomorrow evening. I will still reply to any comments, but will not read any lj stuff other than that until I finish the book. I might post, but not sure.

Date: 2007-07-17 09:04 am (UTC)Ron was in character - friggin' finally. God I adored it. I'm contemplating going seeing this movie again sometime after I read book 7 - if Deathly Hallows doesn't kill me that is. And omg yes, so much Ron/Hermione shippiness, and it was so dead on, too.
he looks straight at her and says 'I must not tell lies.' OMG. YES.
Holy crap I adored that. I'm not a big fan of Harry as a character but there I was just like "Harry I love you & hope you know that".
Twins' exit was incredible. Just. Wow, I was so into this movie. It pulled me and it didn't let go at all. It was nothing like the previous ones, where I constantly had my skepticism hat on and was going "sigh", "meh", *rolls eyes* etc.

Harry is my favorite character in the books, and one of my biggest problems with the movies was that DR was such a block of wood. But not here.
*eeee*

Date: 2007-07-17 02:59 pm (UTC)I liked how the good guys are white cloudy streaks & the bad guys are, of course, black. It was that scene when they are fighting, zooming around the room & Sirius punchs Mr Malfoy that made me squeal, "I LOVE this movie" so loudly in the middle of the theater.
Are you debating seeing Goblet of Fire now, since you've seen all the others? I liked the movie I just felt they rushed too much in the beginning & we didn't get to see much of the Quidditch match.

Date: 2007-07-17 03:04 pm (UTC)I loved that scene. I really loved the sense of fluidity and speed. So gooooood.
Loved the V/D fight, but the thing I loved the most was the aftermath with the glass shards. Love.
Re: GoF. Nah. Won't see it. I really dislike Kloves' scripts and also it seemed like a lot of the problems that movies 1-3 had were present in 4, at least from what I could tell.
