Harry Potter warning (no spoilers)
Jul. 15th, 2007 09:59 pmSix days until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows aka the 'book that might break the internet.'
Sometimes, rarely, even I avoid spoilers.
This is such a time.
Spoil me and I will cut you. With rusty, possibly jinxed scissors that belonged to Voldemort. What? You can find anything on ebay.
I am going to be going off-line on 20th at the latest, and probably earlier if I can manage it (net junkie, it's hard) so as not to get accidentally spoiled.

Heeeeee.
Re: criminal. Why? I love the books but I don't think they are the best thing in the world ever. They are fun though.

Date: 2007-07-16 02:15 am (UTC)The good thing is that this weekend I'm going out of state to meet up with another HP friend to discuss the book and see OotP again, so it'll be easy to stay away from the computer. In the meantime I've already filtered out all communities from my f-list, so my main worry is some kid in the bookstore who gets his copy before me, flips to the end and goes, "OMGZ mommy, they killed Harry!!" Or flipping through TV channels and seeing a headline spoiling the ending. Heck, I'm starting to think it'll be a good idea to avoid any sort of media coverage this weekend.

That would be horrible.
I am going out of town Friday afternoon, so hopefully I shall avoid the internet/spoileration.
I am thinking of filtering all comms out, not just hp ones, just in case.

It might be, you never know!

Date: 2007-07-16 02:37 am (UTC)I'm getting my book at 10:30(in auz we get it at 9:00 which is your 12:00)...so I have one and half hours and I think the internet will self-combust from all the spoilers:P
...So I think I will just read my HBP book and try and not die from temptation of going onto the internet and reading spoilers...

I won't be able to get the book during 21st at all, maybe, as I am on a trip that weekend. 22nd is more likely and that kills me. We'll see though :)

Date: 2007-07-17 06:49 am (UTC)And NOOOO!! I don't want Harry and Ginny to be half-siblings(this isn't a k-drama ppl...:P) and OMG you poor thing...avoid ALL media because I bet you, in some obscure newspaper they will have something.
I got my Harry Potter and the HBP a little late and I opened the newspaper and there was a frickin' article on H/P and it had "spoilers" which were "supposed" to be hidden(like written upside down) but I could make out that one said 'Dumbledore dies'...that killed me. I will avoid newspapers and tv for the whole day. Luckily I have *all* saturday free so I can sit and read *yay*

Date: 2007-07-16 03:11 am (UTC)That said, I know I won't be able to get my hands on the book (which I am more excited about than the newest movie, truth be told) until at least a week after it's been released. But I'm pretty game for spoilers, considering that my sister and I have a running bet on the fact that Harry, is in fact, Voldemort (DUN DUN DUNNNN!), Remus Lupin is really a woman, and Ron and Hermione might be twins separated at birth (because even JKR loves kdrama).

You are totally wrong! Harry and Ginny are half siblings separated at birth instead...

Date: 2007-07-16 03:57 am (UTC)I've been trying to cut back my internet usage all week, and I'm totally cut off from all HP places
I got spoiled via a scanned page on the internet last time, and that IS NOT happening again!
Good luck!

Date: 2007-07-16 03:59 pm (UTC)I was spoiled last time too, but it was voluntary.
This time, not looking anywhere.
But it's hard to stay off the net completely.

Date: 2007-07-16 09:23 am (UTC)I just woke up today thinking, "omg, next weekend!". Eeee.
Also, interesting fact - my work is short of employees this Saturday. It could partly be because there's a big rock festival that weekend in some part of Finland. But I like to think it's because my work is filled with Potter-nuts. :P

Date: 2007-07-16 03:16 pm (UTC)Also, you were asking about if you should see the movie...? Well, you may want to take my opinion with a grain of salt, as I've enjoyed all the movies despite the massive amount of material that gets cut or semi-rearranged. And OotP is the same way - but I have to tell you, you know the part when the Order shows up at the dept of mysteries to rescue/help Harry & his group? I actually squealed out loud (loudly & embarrassingly) in the middle of the movie theater it was that awesome. And the fight between Dumbledore & Voldemort!? Too awesome (if a bit different).

Date: 2007-07-16 04:23 pm (UTC)I know the editing is mostly little things but I'd still like to read it with Lorry instead of truck, Mr Weasely fitting luggage in the boot of the car instead of the trunk, etc. I never had any trouble with my British edition of Chronicles of Narnia. It's part of the authentic & educational experience.

Date: 2007-07-16 04:53 pm (UTC)When Dumbledore's Army is revealed to Umbridge, it's Cho who was the betrayer (no snitch rash on her face either). But you learn later she was given Veritaserum to force a confession. They never have the whole Valentine's Day fiasco.
They don't visit Mr Weasely in the hospital. So Neville tells Harry about his parents when Harry noticed he's feeling depressed after Belatrix breaks out of Azkaban.
The whole "mirror to call Sirius, house-elf betrayal" was left out. Harry got the vision of Sirius, they rush off to save & never doublecheck to make sure it's true. Also, when Sirius dies - Bellatrix killed him with Avada Kedavra & he falls into the arch while dying from the curse. My recollection from the book is he died becuase she pushed him in.
The other cool rooms in the dept of mysteries are skipped. Just the hall with the prophecies & the archway of death room.
The Weasly twins leaving school was not quite so fantastic in my opinion. They did fireworks instead of a lake & swamp. But it was still pretty neat.
Firenze does not come to teach.
When Dumbledore & Voldemort fight, Dumbledore does not bring the statues to life. The fight was amazing but that part was very different.
Harry hears the prophecy from the globe before it gets smashed rather than from Dumbledore's memory.
I really wanted to see them amaze everyone at the OWL test with their Defense Against the Dark Arts skills but unfortunately, that part got skipped.
And lastly, when Dumbledore tells Harry that he didn't tell him about the prophecy becuase he thought Harry already had enough to deal with, it wasn't quite as moving. Didn't Dumbledore tear up in the book? I know I did.

Date: 2007-07-16 05:11 pm (UTC)Dobby was not in the movie at all.
The whole "being prefect" subplot was cut.
They never mention Ginny and her boyfriends. But every time they talk about Harry & Cho it's sooo obvious she is not happy at the discussion. It was cute.
There were some really funny parts/lines like certain teachers cheering when the twins set fire to Umbridge's hair.

Date: 2007-07-16 06:41 pm (UTC)The biggest problem for me in the movies is actually the Trio. They don't look like my mental images of h/hr/r at all :(
