You know how The Outsiders made me learn to screencap?

OK, now I want to have DVDs.

But for that I need a few things.

So firstly, does anyone know how to convert softsubs into hardsubs?

And secondly, how do I convert avi or rmdb files into format playable on DVD?

Does anyone know of any tutorials?

Thank you

I used this tutorial to hardsub my avi files.

You could use Avi2DVD to burn your files to DVD format (I haven't used it before. So I don't know if it's any good. But it's free :P). I would suggest you buy a DVD player that has DivX support. That way you won't have to convert your files (AVI files). All you would do is burn them to a data disc. It makes things so much more easy, and you can fit a lot more video files on a data disc.

Oh, and..

DVDStyler is an awesome tool if you wanna make a DVD with purdy menus and such. You'll need an Encoder to convert your vids first though, I would recommend SUPER! Then you'll need a program to burn your DVD to disc --> ImgBurn.

Here's a good place to start: Making Professional DVD from Authoring to Replication.

OMG. I love you.

Now all I need to do is to buy an external burner (the internal one is only a cd burner) and I am set!

I was just thinking to myself how much technical stuff you've had to pick up since you got into these dramas. :-D

Can you screencap youtube vids fairly easily now? I may ask you for favors...

I don't really screencap youtube stuff, sorry (the quality isn't good enough for me to want to, I prefer direct dl). I can look for a tutorial for you though.

Your burner should come with software, too. I use DivXtoDVD for my converting/burning software. But I use SUPER to convert rmvb stuff to avi.
You can get DivXtoDVD here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm

Thank you!

I actually only plan to burn avi files for now (though the rmvb thing is really helpful for the future). But avi is not playable on my dvd player so SUPER is awesome as it looks like it will convert avi files into DVDs.

I need to buy a burner (my computer doesn't have one). any recs?

Depends on what your computer can handle. My computer is pathetic & doesn't meet the minimum requirements of any DVD burner out there. So I got the one with the smallest requirements from Best Buy to test out (you can return electronics w/in 14 days at Best Buy so I figured, might as well try.). It ended up working fine on my computer but I hated the software it came with & use my DivXtoDVD instead.

My computer takes a solid 24hrs to convert & burn a DVD. (DivXtoDVD automatically converts the files into DVD format & then burns them) But a computer not as ancient as mine should go quicker than 24 hrs.

I'm slowing burning everything I have on to DVD. I've done Kurosagi, Pride, Mars & I'm working on Smiling Pasta. The Smiling Pasta (& a few of the Mars) came in a different format than avi so I had to use SUPER to convert them first.

My burner is how I successfully hooked my mother & sister on asian dramas. They are begging for more Smiling Pasta. And I showed them the first episode of Goong & they are drooling in anticiaption of the rest.

You are awesome!

My computer is pretty old, so I am going to see compatibility stuff.

Re: DivXtoDVD. yay. I won't even have to install anything enxtra! (Though I'll install Super for the future). I see a burning orgy coming up :)

If you have Nero 7, it's the easiest thing in the world... also, [livejournal.com profile] jdramas has a link to tuts on all the stuff you might want to know.
