Reading Mania...
Jun. 26th, 2007 05:25 pmI am continuing with Skip-Beat and am currently in the middle of volume 7. I really like it, though no rabid love. I adore Kyoko to bits. Am a bit more on the fence about Ren. I like him but don’t love him yet. He is a bit too in control of himself and too much of a workaholic. I need some vulnerability, there. But we’ll see. Kyoko is a super-darling though.
I have also discovered a super-fun new manhwa (new to me, at any event): Chocolat. Six of eight volumes are currently out. The story follows Kum-Ji, who is a fangirl. Heee. See, it got me from that moment on.

KJ is a rabid fangirl for a really popular boy band, DDL (just imagine some fangirls on soompi and you are set ;)) Unfortunately, she cannot join the fanclub as she only discovered them recently and membership is closed. No prime tickets for her, or special gigs. What’s a dedicated fan to do? KJ decides to join a fanclub of a much smaller, very new band which performs at a lot of the same venues as her favorites. So small is the club that KJ actually gets to be an officer. Problem? Her first managerial act is to get into a fight with the band singer, who pulls the celebrity thing and tells her to take the next elevator. She, having no idea who he is, lays into him. The guy is understandably bemused how his club officer has no idea who he is and curious about the weirdo. And even though KJ is saved from immediate expulsion, she is now very very stuck.
So, will KJ ever get a chance to see her beloved DDL up close? How will various entanglements of hers with band members progress? Is there love? Maybe. Is there wackiness? Definitely. It would make an awesome drama.
I have also started Salman Rushdie’s The Ground Beneath Her Feet, a very loose interpretation of Orpheus and Euridyche. It’s the first of his books I’ve read and wow. It’s beautiful and amazing and I think I might have found another author I like as much as Jorge Amado.
ETA: OMG. So cute:

i'm worried about chocolat
Date: 2007-06-26 09:45 pm (UTC)Chocolat has been optioned to be turned into a live adaptation, but that could just be more k-netizen rumor than anything concrete.
I'm hoping the other guy in chocolat will get over whatever his issue is, because while I like the other guy okay (they fight like kids) I absolutely love the tall dark brooding one. I can't help myself!
Re: i'm worried about chocolat
Date: 2007-06-26 09:54 pm (UTC)I wonder what is going on (there was also something weird with Can't Live without You, but it's a different manhwa publisher).
I noticed that volumes 5&6 are not in bookstore. I think I can get them through amazon.
IceKunion's website is dead? Oh no. They publish a whole bunch of my favorite manhwa. Argh.
I absolutely love the tall dark brooding one. I can't help myself!
I am sort of torn between the two!
