State of the Drama-Watching Mousie

So, now that every Spring drama has started, here are my opinions and takes on what I will be following this spring.

Drama Loves

Cinderella Unni - I have already posted repeatedly about my obsession. I was not looking forward to it at all because the promos put me off. But somewhere in the first 5 minutes I fell in love and by the end of ep 2 I became rabid. Everything about it perfect - gorgeous cinematography, tormented fascinating real characters, dysfunctional and magnetic relationships, great acting by everyone involved, and above all, the chemistry between Moon Geun Young and Chun Jung Myung is so intense sometimes I want to look away because I feel I am intruding. This off-beat twisted take on the Cinderella story, following Cinderella's older sister played to the hilt by Moon Geun Young as this deeply damaged, fierce young woman is simply incredible.

Prosecutor Princess - my other obsession of the season. I liked the first episode but by the end of episode 2 I simply fell in helpless love. I adore Hyeri, our prosecutor heroine played by Kim So Yeon (you won't recognize her as the same woman from IRIS) as a self-absorbed heroine who is not interested in bonding or humanity but is nontheless whip-smart and capable. I adore her relationship with the mysterious lawyer played by one of the sexiest kdrama actors ever, Park Shi Hoo - their chemistry is ridiculous and their verbal, high-speed sparring reminds me of best screwball movies. I adore all the other characters. It's so irresistable and perfect.

Drama Likes

Personal Taste - have seen one episode of it and, despite my previous worries about it, I really liked it. The first half of the first episode wasn't working for me - nothing was bad or anything but it didn't gel but then about the halfway mark it clicked into place and I fell in like. It's funny (I laughed out loud repeatedly), light, snappy, and I like both the protagonists. I was worried from the promos that Song Ye Jin's character would be an irritating useless ditz a la Jandi but thankfully this is not the case. Actually she reminds me a bit of Hotaru from Hotaru no Hikari - she does well professionally but her house is a disaster zone and dating-wise she's rather a disaster too. She is awesome though - the first ep is worth watching for the scene when a coworker tries to take advantage when she's drunk and she comes to and punches the hell out of him. Lee Min Ho's finicky perfectionist is awesome - you can tell underneath his brusque manner is someone with heart and a sense of responsibility (doing his best to pay his workers despite the cash troubles it's going to cause). I kept having this niggling sense of recognition at the back of my head and finally near the end of the ep it hit me - LMH is sort of channeling Joo Ji Hoon (come back, oppa, come back!!!!) and there is no quicker way to my heart. (I remember the initial rumors back way when had Yoon Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon in these roles and honestly it would have fit them like a glove). It's funny, it's cute, it has potential, and I like the chemistry between SYJ and LMH even if it's not yet out-of-this-world scorching the way the chemistry is in my two 'love' dramas.

Oh My Lady - have seen 4 eps and it's such a funny, tongue-in-cheek drama with so many of my favorite tropes in one place - unwitting parents, contracts, house sharing, immature stars, older woman/younger man, and Siwon topless :P This drama hasn't made me feel deeply but it always puts me in good mood by the time the ep is done. And it looks like it's going to kick into a more serious gear soon and I am looking forward to it.

Potential Substitutes

Dong Yi - everything I have heard about it sounds really good and the 50-ep count isn't putting me off if it's done weekly like the rest of the dramas but I am already following 4 dramas. I simply cannot add another one to my slate. Well, unless Bae Soo Bin goes topless. Please notify me if that happens, thanks. (Joking aside, the fact that Han Hyo Joo and Bae Soo Bin are in the same drama again and he is an angsty sexy ninja protecting her from childhood and he won't get her, again, pisses me off. If he was going to get her, I would have cleared the space on my slate no matter what).
