Episodes 5 and 6 of Swallow the Sun really upped the ante.

The plot is really cooking now and we've finally met all our main characters.
Hero finally gets told (some of) the truth by Cop - he was an illegitimate son, his mother didn't know he survived because grandmother lied to her and dumped him in the orphanage. Oh, and Mum died when he was five. He tells Hero he will tell him about his father late. And now let's go back to jail. Hero's life officially sucks.

He runs off to finish some unfinished business.

First, he prevents his friends from becoming murderers by rescuing Jackson, the guy they've been hired to kill by Mob Boss. (For more about Jackson and his awesome OTP go to this post). There is manly bonding and all that.

Then he goes to catch a glimpse of Heroine - a glimpse is all he wants to satisfy him and give him strength for his jailtime.

He leaves without saying a word but she sees him and runs after him. She asks him doesn't he want to come in and talk and is wondering why come like this. He can live on her concern, OMG, I bet.

Ugh, I hate Secretary with a passion. Basically, Gangsta Girl slept with him in exchange for his promises to help Hero (who wouldn't be in this situation in the first place if not for Secretary and Mob Boss) and when she brings it up in the morning, Secretary is all 'it displeases me for you to say his name.' Die in a fire, pig!

Sorry, a bit of Jackson coolness. He shrugs off his employer's concern seeming to think an almost successful assassination attempt is nothing. Heh. Also tells employer that he knows moneylender is doing it because he thinks Jackson ruined his daughter's life and he doesn't blame him, in his place he would have done the same. Hello, Secondary Crush! I luuuuuv you.

"Hey, kid. Now that I am driving you to prison is a great time to tell you your Dad was a hardcore criminal scum who raped your mother." We, as the audience know it's not true - the two genuinely fell in love and all hanky-panky was consensual, but what strikes me is Cop should know it too - Hero's Mom's reaction when Hero's Dad was being dragged off by cops wasn't 'take my rapist' but 'don't hurt the man I love!' But I think Cop's love and jealousy for Mom blind him. Which is horrible because Hero doesn't know any different - he will believe it and what a thing to believe of your parents and to find out about your conception. Ugh.

Secretary and Rich Boy happen to drive by and Rich Boy doesn't even want to stop. Ugh!

I'd be harsher on Rich Boy only we find out something that makes me pity him - he wasn't born a spoiled rich brat. In fact, Mob Boss didn't come and claim him until he was 14 (no idea if he didn't know he had a son or simply didn't care). And Rich Boy lived with his mother in horrific poverty - he spent his childhood begging on the streets. And then his mother died from malnutricion/cold/illness and he spent the winter huddled with her body (??? I believe at least part of it as she was dying). So he has huge issues, a lot of them with Mob Boss.

Poor Gangsta Girl.

I love the fish shop proprietor and neglected-wife-of-cop. I totally want them to hook up.

Heroine tells Rich Boy she is going to study abroad.

Hero brooding in jail.

Awesome heroine and her roommie are both studying and working in Las Vegas.

They come home to find out someone in their complex (another Korean woman) tried to kill herself. But that has already been recapped in my secondary OTP post as linked to above.

More prison hotness. Just because. Ji Sung was one of the very few men who looked good with army crew-cut and you can see why - he has incredibly symmetrical features.

Jackson (back to Korea to talk to his OTP's father - see secondary OTP post) finds the guys who tried to off him and actually makes friends with them - he's looking for hero to thank him but he's in jail so. It's kinda hilarious how the guys think he came to avenge himself and ineffectively try to fight him - without bats and 20 guys, he makes mincemeat of them in a second. And then they make friends and go drinking - they drink sideways as showing respect to a senior, LOL.

Rich Boy continues his redemption path by coming to visit Hero in jail. He also promises Mob Boss would take good care of Hero.

Oh, poor darling. He's remembering the Heroine.

The Heroine, meanwhile, just walked in on her roommie and boyfriend du jour making out. Again. LOL.

Later, it's heroine's birthday and she goes out to dinner and finally sees Cirque de Soleil. She now has a dream - she wants to design their acts - she views it as poetry in motion. Yesss.

Mob Boss, unsurprisingly, earns my undying hatred - when Rich Boy, who is about to go off to study abroad, talks to him and asks him to take good care of Hero, Mob Boss replies that he only hired Hero to instill some ambition in Rich Boy and now that Rich Boy has ambition (little do you know - he's only going to study abroad to get close to heroine), he doesn't need trash like Hero and will just toss him out. The hell????? You made him go to jail instead of your wimpy son! DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE SCUM. (Btw, by this ep I am firmly convinced Mob Boss is Hero's father. That's going to be an interesting reunion if they ever find out).

Heroine and Roommie get invited to dinner by Amy the Stripper but once again, see the secondary OTP post for more.

Rich Boy finds Heroine in the university.

He offers to make her dreams come true and she is all 'no thanks, I'll make my own dreams come true, bb"

He also tells her Hero and he parted ways (what no 'he is serving jailtime for something I did?' Ugh). Heroine walks home and thinks about Hero which yessss - she clearly likes him more than a bit!

Hero gets more info on his father in jail - it's not really good - dude's a horrible beast etc etc. So yay. As far as he knows his father is a monster criminal rapist. Eeeek.

But then finally he's out. But when he visits Mob Boss, Mob Boss basically tells his flunkie not to let him in. Did die die pig person! I hope you and Secretary stab each other to death!
