Because my Stained Glass DVDs were a bit messed up and because I wanted:

a. something really fluffy and light and
b. a Lee Dong Gun fix

as much as I love wuxia, marathonning just that gets psychically exhausting (all the angst and fighting :D)

I pulled out my DVDs of the fluffy, light kdrama Sweet 18 starring the scarily adorable on/off screen pair of Lee Dong Gun and Han Ji Hye.

Half an ep in, it's exactly the fluff I need to counterbalance ROCH.

S18 is a rather unusual story. Synopsis from wiki:

the story begins when Kwon Hyuk-joon's grandfather, the head of the traditional Kwon family agrees to an arranged marriage between his grandson (Lee Dong Gun) and Yoon Jung-sook (Han Ji Hye) when Yoon Jung-sook is born. 18 years later, the two families lose contact because soon after the contract is signed, Jung-sook's family encounters financial issues and is forced to run away.

Meanwhile, Jung-sook has grown up to be a rebellious and strong-willed girl who just wants to live her life as she sees fit. With little aspirations, she is the direct foil of her achievement-bound counterpart, Hyuk-joon. When the two meet each other, they clash horribly; Jung-sook thinks her fiancee is nothing but boring, and Hyuk-joon believes Jung-sook to be nothing but an immature child. The rest of the series follows their life living together as a couple, and the obstacles they are faced with. When Hyuk-joon's first love reappears and wants to claim Hyuk-joon for herself (despite the fact that he's married), who will Hyuk-joon choose? His first love Ga-young, or immature spunky Jung-sook?

Here is a MV:

Isn't it incredibly adorable?

It is ridiculously adorable. It's been a while since I've seen it, but it's silly and fun (Lee Da Hae has a small part as an evil bitch, which just blows your mind if you've only ever seen her play the kickass heroine). I think you'll enjoy it muchly.

I know she is the dreaded other and I can't imagine. So far, one ep in, it's adorable.

nothing to do with post, but I'm about 200 pages into the first Dark Hunters book. I must admire the audacity of a writer who, in the first 30 pages, has the heroine reading a book she wrote for another company under a different name. And you know...I think the reason there's no real inclination to go "oh you poor woobie, let me make it all better" is because the writer and heroine are already doing it so much, he really doesn't need extra sympathy from us.

LOL re woobiness. Which book is that? Is it Kyrian's? It's OK for a romance novel but not one of my faves. I like Talon's better mainly because of secondary characters.

yup, Kyrian's. But, seriously, Kenyon and the heroine are both so busy going "oh you poor woobie" that i feel no need to join in(which is really a common problem for romance novels, imo)

BTW...I'm 1/2 way through ep 13 of My Girl and almost went psycho because I thougt SH was going to break the snow globe

Oh, the poor little snow globe. It now probably needs to be detoxed.

Btw, have you gotten to 14 by now????????

I think it made Yu-rin drop it to spare itself the pain...

midway through ep 15...that boy sure does have a lot of snowglobes. And...BABY!!!!! (named after Yu-rin? Ye-rin/Yu-rin...SOUNDS like it to me) And how mean is it for him to keep saying he's off to play with the baby and then we don't get to see them playing?

What grandfather did...well, it was bad, but it's not much worse than what they did to him, really...

He is the snow globe maniac :)

Re: grandpa. Agree to disagree. Seriously, so different. What Gong Chan did was based on unselfish reasons (to make him better), and for grandpa it is all about himself, how he feels. There is no putting others first (but it's consistent, he did disown his daughter after all).

Gong-Chan did all the things he did to spare Grandpa pain, but Grandpa can see his grandson breaking down like that and beg and still sit like a stone? Ugh. I hate him.

HATE.

I have a deep and abiding loathing for him.

I have to say, I really enjoyed korean movie The Host as the actor gets offed in it :)

*flails* this is like, the 8th time I've tried replying...was starting to worry one of our LJs poofed. *breathes*

so...hadn't gotten to the stuff about keeping Hana a secret for two years(which was wrong to do to her, too) yet and why earlier, which certainly makes it a lot different. Because really...asking Yu-rin to leave and not come back or have any contact with the family is actually a relatively mild reaction, given that they allowed his entire life to be centered around a lie for months. But keeping Hana a secret was cruel to both his grandchildren.

Still can't hate him, though, but I think that's largely beecause I can't completely disassociate him from the super sweet yet crafty grandpa he played in 1% of anything

BTW, did your discs have the Glass Shoes and Shoot for the Stars preview eps, and if so, did you watch them? Glass Shoes doesn't sounbd like my thing, but I can't find info on the otyher and am wondering if it's worth my time to watch them.

Nah, still hate Grandpa. *stabs* That one scene with Gong Chan on his knees cealed my utter hatred. But it's his behavior after two years that I couldn't stand.

Glass Shoes has the most WTF ending apparently. Haven't seen SftS but I do own it :)

see, even then I could see it as a "reacting from pain" thing, but 2 years later? Whole other thing. Pretty much all my hate is reserved for SH, though, as it's pretty much all her fault.

What's SttS about?

Date: 2007-05-31 04:52 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Oh yeah, SH is worse. Much worse. Still, she isn't family.

SttS: I honestly don't remember any more as I got it in a huge batch of dramas. Should be on drama wiki though.

Date: 2007-05-31 05:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com
Grandpa is at least coming from somewhere, right or wrong, SH is just blindly jealous. If I can see where a character is coming from, my dislike tends to be lessened a lot, but her...uh uh.

Hmm...SttS...all I found earlier was a blank page. I'd look again, but not including any jdramas, cdramas or tdramas, my next drama order is Fantasy Couple, Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang and either Seo Dong Yo or Dae Jang Geum...maybe it's better if I DON'T know what it's about...

yesasia is going to have a stts summary. I think it's about singers or dancers or something. or am i confusing it with 'over the rainbow?'

ahhh its been awhile since i've seen sweet 18 but i highly enjoyed it and yes ROCH *i'm on eps 18* is heavy on the angst and action so Sweer 18 is the fluff that you need...

Date: 2007-05-30 05:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Wow, you are to 18 already? How are you liking it? I am finding the alternating ROCH and S18 is awesome. Too much ROCH and I'll hyperventilate to death :)

i'm really liking it but since i marathoned the first 18 it was kinda rough and i'm guessing i won't be seeing anymore until after next week..

Heee. yeah, too much leads to exhaustion as it's so intense...

So, do you like Yang Guo, my newest crush? :)

From: [identity profile] janlake83.livejournal.com
yes i do ... and its way too intense at certain parts but since i'm taking a wee break from it i hope when i get back i won't be overloaded with angst

Date: 2007-05-31 04:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Yeah, the angst is heavy duty. I took a couple days break from it with S18 but now am back for more :)

Lol...still a lj newb ^^
Oh! Sweet 18 seems cute...is that the one with lee dae hee being evol! That would be hilariously....creepy....o.0

wuxia are those dramas/movies which have the martial arts fighting that's on wires. You know, 'Hero' or 'Crouching Tiger' type stuff (though usually there is a lot of plot too. It's a shorthand for me for saying period romance adventure dramas).

I've gotten into it lately and it's awesome.

ETA means 'edited to add' which being scatterbrained I do a lot :)
