dangermousie: (Lives of Others by alexandral)

I am consuming Dark-Hunter books like candy. The only one of the books I truly love is the one about Zarek, but I really enjoy the rest, mainly for the world structures and Ash and Simi etc. And yeah, Zarek is my favorite dark-hunter (well, Ash is, but he really isn’t a dark-hunter) which, considering he is bona-fide psychotic, says something about me. I guess I like him the best because he might have a lot of angst and issues but he is not all mushy and weepy about it. And I totally love that even after his HEA with Astrid he is still totally anti-people-person. He is incredibly in love with Astrid (but not sentimental either yay) but that doesn’t translate into his being a Polyanna (because my problem with someone like Kyrian or Julian is they adjust too well, too quick considering how much trauma is in their past). In fact, I am currently reading the Viking book (blanking on the name) and am not too keen on it but Ash and Zarek and etc have just appeared as back-up and I finally got into it. I love Zarek’s attitude which is basically ‘Astrid sent me here. She thinks I should make friends. Must be some weird woman thing. I am just here for the killing. Let’s kill things so I can go back to the beach.’ HEH.

So basically my favorites are the psycho (Zarek) and the masochist (Ash). The rest are woobies of various sorts and thus apparently not my speed. This is deeply disturbing.

I need to see which ones I have and get started reading them...sounds like Zarek will be my fave, too...probably my favorite kind of hero, but rarely done right.

That book (blanking on name) is the only one I think is actually good. I guess I like them grouchy.

Dance With the Devil *checked her stacks*

The antihero who really doesn't care about anything but the ones he cares about is about the best thing ever, but they almost always screw it up.

Yup, they almost always make them actually a true softie underneath.

Nah, I like this because Zarek is genuinely screwed up, for good, and he cares about Astrid, and maybe a couple of other people (but them it's more controlled) and hey, he might die for her sake but doesn't mean he won't be pissed as hell about it.

Heh.

And take a lot of them with him.

How many books into the series is Zarek's book?

It's the third book. #1 is Night Pleasures and #2 is Night Embrace.

You can skip NP but NE is less skippable because that's when he first appears. (Well, you can skip both of them, but I like having backstory).

Normally, I am much more about Ash (the super myserious, super-powerful, super-messed-up leader of the Dark Hunters) then about whoever the lead happens to be, but here it was actually not the case!

ah cool, I have all 3(and 4-5 others...didn't realize I had so many of them...I've been so caught up in fantasy/urban fantasy/historical fiction/mysteries the last year and a half that I've only touched romances off and on, but I've been trying to keep up with releases, and I fell behind on her books before that)

*puts Night Pleasures in bag as no internet at work=more reading time.

I am glad I am not the only one. That book had more 'edge' than the other ones, I think (generally, with SK stuff I find that the more edge the hero has, the more I like it. Oh, and the more Acheron ;))

Thanks for the book rec!

Zarek is one of my favorite Dark Hunters, and Dance With The Devil is one of my favorite Sherrilyn Kenyon novels. I really can't wait for Ash's book. Is it Wulf you were reading? I've read all of them and I own all of the books except three.

Yay, I am not the only one!

Yup, I was reading the Wulf book which was pretty hohum. I think it's funny because I get all excited when Ash or Zarek show up but then it makes the rest of the characters seem boring :)
