I was going to do a daily "Japan Photos' post but photobucket is being uncooperative and taking forever to upload. Apologies. I'll do one tomorrow though.
Mr. Mousie and I watched the Hong Kong flick The Vampire Effect tonight.

Totally fun if fluff flick, think Buffy with a goofy, off-kilter touch. Which I guess is Buffy. I got it for Ekin Cheng (who plays the hot vampire hunter Reeve) but the whole cast was fun and Edison Chen (playing Kasaf, the Vampire Prince, was yummy too).
The plot: Helen is a bubbly, fun girl with horrific luck in boyfriends. Luckily for her, her luck has changed and she met an adorable, sweet (if slightly dorky) hottie named Kasaf. Unfortunately for Helen, no good man is without a catch and in this case, the catch is a bit...big. Kasaf is a vampire prince. He might be a 'good' vampire, who'd rather starve than drink a human, and Helen herself seems singularly unphased, taking it all with her off-kilter humor, but that doesn't help much considering that Helen's adored older brother Reeve is a famous vampire hunter. Oh, and there is a minor fact that an evil renegade has killed off all of Kasaf's family and now is after him.
Can a vampire fall in love with his lunch? Can a girl go for a guy for whom 'smoking hot' might be an unfortunate real fate? Will they keep Reeve from killing the undead who is hitting on his little sister? (Helen hopes he might be too busy coping with his adorable new female hunting partner to care). Will the baddie be defeated? Oh, and what is that awesome cameo by Jackie Chan doing there? And will girls kicking ass ever stop being awesome?
Find it all in more in this fun fun movie.
ETA:
If you want to watch it, I strongly recommend finding a non-US Version (it will be entitled The Twins Effect) as US release cut out 20 minutes for some weird reason. The 'good' version should be over an 1:45.

Date: 2007-05-20 06:01 am (UTC)Seriously though, I've used LJ galleries before but am not as familiar with them. It actually just finished uploading in pb but I am too tired now and am off to be, right after editing this post to add the mv for Vampire Effect.

Date: 2007-05-20 02:50 pm (UTC)The sequel is seriously bad, though. Instead of Ekin they brought in Jackie Chan's son to play the lead, but somehow got Donnie Yen to do a cameo where he fights a statue of Jackie Chan that comes to life.
BTW, "Twins Effect" is the Hong Kong title, capitalizing on the success of the two female leads (who are a singing girl duo called 'Twins'). "Vampire Effect" is the stateside release title, since audiences in North America are not going to understand the Twins reference.
