dangermousie: (Worlds Within by vierran45)

I got barely 5 hours of sleep but I am up to watch more Worlds Within which is indeed on track to becoming my favorite drama but also having my favorite hero and favorite heroine.

Also, the drama makers clearly knew what I wanted and it looks like ep 8 is mainly Kyu-Ho (famous director) centric. YESSS. How does this drama give me what I want? I keep thinking how great this drama is because there is not a single character whose scenes I want to fast-forward through and they all have lives I am interested in. I really really like Kyu-Ho the best of all the supporting characters mainly because competence is a huge kink of mine and he is very very competent. Also, he comes from a high-ranking political family (his Dad is a Senator) and I find the dynamics very interesting - they never beat us over the head with it but I think his ingrained distrust of being emotionally open or vulnerable comes from that - he's had a lot of time to see his father fake caring feelings he does not have (there is a scene where Kyu-Ho's acting-out troublemaker of a brother got severely injured in a gang fight and is hospitalized and Kyu-Ho overhears the Senator and his aides scheme as to how to turn this into an opportunity for a campaign - the look on Kyu-Ho's face is disgusted but not surprised in the least. I bet one of the reasons he likes the novice actress is her uncomplicated forthrightness).

But one of the things I love about the characters in this drama is they are adults - whatever issues they might have (and honestly, which grown-up doesn't have at least some issues?) they channel it into doing something productive with their lives.

You know, I have almost 700 caps from the last ep-and-a-half but it would take me a bit to sort them out. Have a few samples first :)

One of the reasons I love watching Joon Young and Ji Oh on-screen is because their interactions are filled with those million little romantic moments that fiction usually misses - the slightly odd, tender, random interludes. In this one, she is basically stroking his eyebrows and besottedly commenting on them.

It's crazy to me, how relatable I find her, I think it's because there is nothing exaggerated about her for cuteness, angst or any other reason. She is capable of self-sacrifice but not in some abstract ridiculous way. She tells Ji Oh she will become second-unit director to Kyu-Ho (Kyu-Ho's drama is behind schedule for various reasons and it's clear that one of them will have to become his B-unit person) even though it's been made clear she has a drama of her own she wants to do, because she knows Ji-Oh has basically been run down to the bone and he also has a drama he is desperate to do because he needs success even more than she does - he has financial reasons, too, unlike her (I found it interesting, when she said she wanted to do dramas from childhood and asked him why he went for dramas and not films, the way he wanted to in college, and he said he needed to eat and to support his parents - they have those little background differences that keep being brought out but never rubbed in). And I love that he offers to become B-Unit director instead, but I love even more that he does not offer it right away and only after we see how desperately he does not want to do it (she doesn't accept his offer).

And in case all meta makes you bored? Here, have a shot of Kyu-Ho's brother. He's hot.

ETA: Almost forgot. I am amused to see that Ji Oh shares [livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore's low opinion of modern kdrama heroes, commenting that "he doesn't work either, right? But he uses money like there's no tomorrow I bet. Going to Europe, Africa, India, not caring if people are dying of hunger. He's very selfish. And he treats everyone like crap, thinking he's the only innocent one."

ETA2: You know one of the things I adore about WW? It's how they show a lot of the nitty-gritty that goes into drama production. I am a sucker for books/documentaries/whatever that show how things work.
