dangermousieOpening credits start in a swirl of color, and the images morph from a gorgeous woman in red running, with a long train of her dress behind her, to rows and rows of scholars, to swords, to stolen, startled hugs and almost kisses, to smiles and a couple spinning and then to a gorgeous guy clutching a pendant in despair. Ther are colors, and period costumes, and beautiful views, and the OTP that owns me even from the credits.
I am gone. This is this year's adaptation of Butterfly Lovers, a famous Chinese Romeo-and-Juliet type story.
When the story proper starts, it's a wedding. The groom, good-looking in a stolid way, is brought in, in front of the crowd. Everything is good-humor and party atmosphere, but it intercuts to the women's quarters where something entirely else is going on. And slowly word comes around. 'The bride cannot be found.' Finally the figure in red, veiled, is located but she runs and runs. It looks like a surreal fairytale as the crowd closes in on her in a circle. No way out. But the veil...is off. And's the groom's younger sister.
To the groom's patient 'I know you like to play, but where is my bride' the girl responds. 'Liang Yu does not want to be married to you.' And the screen fades in and then out to the girl, in red, desperately racing a carriage into the woods. Who is pursued by the household.
The girl driving the carriage? The heroine of the story, the sister of the disappointed groom, the girl who is helping her friend (and her never-to-be sister in law) escape to the man she loves. Which is successful, due to the heroine's quick thinking.
Hiding from her family's wrath, she runs into a small wayside temple and there...she literally bumps into the hero of the story, a little shy and unworldly but utterly sweet and adorable scholar, who has taken shelter there from the rain.
He cannot see her face, because of the veil, but he hides her and they talk and bicker a little and laugh and it's just awesome and adorable and squishable and just...seriously. OMG. If they were any more adorable, I'd probably die ;)
When morning comes, she returns home, throwing her bridal veil to him as a parting gift. But she is running out and is some distance away so he doesn't see her face. Which is just as well, as according to the synopsis, she is going to dress as a boy and study as a scholar in the same place he does, later.
I am hooked. I meant just to check if the download worked and here I am, 25 minutes later, completely hooked.
Heck, I am contemplating liveblogging.

Actually, if it stays light, that might be a good idea...you'll probably have...uhm... *counts* 4-5 complete meltdowns in the last 12 or so eps of HS. (have I mentioned how uterly despicable the main villainess is? She makes Pincess Moon look nice and sweet. Yet, you can't help but admire her audacity...)

Re: BL. I am sure the first few eps will be light but since this is a Chinese R&J type story and I read what happens, I can definitely see huge doses of angst later.

Princess Moon is Flower's evil master...the one upset that the guy she wanted for a sex pet ran off with a nice girl and was all prepped to murder babies.

I am going to cut down because it's actually getting me confused too. I am going to have one dvd drama (Green Rose, which I adore) and then once I finish If in love (it's only 4 hours) I am going to stick only to two computer dramas: Witch and Hello Miss, because otherwise my head is reeling (Handsome Siblings is my next dvd thing after Green Rose because I love it but want to watch on tv screen). Because between those and the ones I am still watching but haven't in the last week, it's getting hard to keep the story threads :)
