OMG.

Green Rose.

GREEN ROSE.

I am now on episode 15 and oh how you own me more and more with each episode.

You are like anti-Loveholic in that you get better and better with each episode.

And is it humanly possible for Jung-Hyun to get more masculine and determined and tortured all at once with each ep? Apparently it is.

Oh GOD.

It is perfect.

GUUUUUUH.

I really love that this has a complicated plot and I can't predict the twists (rarity in kdrama).

OMG OMG OMG. Hyun-Tae is evil and we all know it. And he is after Soo-Ah. And it's his ex that lied on the stand got Jung-Hyun convicted (but now she is part of Jung-Hyun's gang. I am going to refer to her as Secretary Girl). So I naturally assumed that HT is the one responsible for the murder of the servant and attempted murder of the Chairman (especially the way he didn't want him to wake up). And the way he was all about having JH put away.

But OMG OMG OMG.

Now it looks like it's Mr. Suh. The nice guy. The one that actually helped Jung-Hyun on the run. OMG OMG OMG.

And it looks like he is the one who ordered the hit on Jung-Hyun at the end of 14 (I thought it wouldn't be Hyun-Tae, he is a bit more 'refined' in his methods).

The hit scene is awesome and I will talk about it below, btw.

First off the OTP.

So amazing. They have great chemistry. And are generally awesome. I love how JH thinks that Soo-Ah is surrounded by enemies and how his priority, even over clearing his name is to protect her. *thud*

And he sends her green roses. *dies*

And they meet for lunch, and I think she's sort of accepted he isn't JH at this point. And he tells her he would like to be the one to help her forget and make new memories.

OMG OMG OMG OmG omG.

Because of course it's not logical and he shouldn't, but he just wants to be with her, and it overrules anything and he will come up with some expedient.

And you can tell how she wants to take him up on it (they are just drawn to each other, aren't they? Poor woobies). But she tells him there is a man who stood by her and company and she cannot think of causing that man pain. And she asks to see her only as the company representative. And bows and walks away.

And he is left stock still. Just sitting there. And sitting. And sitting. And not moving.

*dies*

I love that how despite all the toughness, there is a boy in there somewhere. Like when he asks his new lawyer if he can punish his old attorney because he deserves it. There is a lost quality to it.

And I love that he makes the attorney to give away all his wealth (and earlier makes him helpless). And he is talking to a friend and says that there other ways to kill someone. To take power from someone who is all about power, and to take wealth from someone who values it more than anything is like killing them. And then he says very quietly. 'I killed Attorney [Name] twice today.'

Wow.

I think it's precisely because he is so alone, that he values his tightly-knit group of friends. His life has been tough and horrible and it made him tough but not horrible at all.

And I just love his contained quiet.

Secretary Girl is in love with him (as she reveals in an awesome scene, where she begs him to leave and forget revenge and Soo-Ah) because...of his kindness. I love when she tells him (paraphrase) 'you are kind even to someone who should be your enemy [she means herself]...I can only imagine how kind you were with Soo-Ah.'

And I love him when she asks him to leave, and to live under the fake name he has now. He replies he is Jung-Hyun no matter what and she tells him it's just a name. And he replies 'It's the name my mother called me. It's the name Soo-Ah knows me by.'

*thud*

And Hyun-Tae invites him for horse-races and dinner and Soo-Ah is there and this is so difficult for JH. He actually messes up the story of when his mother died. (He told Soo-Ah earlier that it was when he was 12 and now says it was a few years back). I have no idea if it's on purpose but I doubt it because he is so exhausted and strung out.

And OMG, the way Soo-Ah gloms onto it. She is frozen and stricken for the rest of the evening and is devouring him with her eyes. Because she is back to thinking he is Jung-Hyun.

OMG OMG.

And he leaves and gets into the car on the ride back with his driver and his hottie bodyguard and he actually falls asleep because he is so exhausted. I love how he can deal with anything life throws at him, but dealing with Soo-Ah is taking all his concentration because it's emotionally killing him.

And then OMG OMG OMG OMG my favorite scene follows.

Because on the road they end up surrounded by a bunch of mobster cars and so they have to stop, and the hottie bodyguard and the driver jump out and start fighting and poor exhausted JH wakes up and joins the fight and it's elegant and brutal at once.

And they are winning despite being outnumbered and then some bastard comes at JH with a knife and bodyguard jumps in front and gets severely stabbed and I wail 'nooo.' Because he is too hot to die but also because JH shouldn't lose anyone else he cares about.

And JH is screaming the bodyguard's name and he joins the fight again, and OMG OMG he gets stabbed.

But he manages to last long enough for mob to disperse and then they are all in the hospital and JH is completely freaking out over TR (the bodyguard) and then as bodyguard gets wheeled into the operating room...JH slowly crumples on the floor. Because he is badly wounded too, but he was functioning on sheer adrenaline and concern. And now he knows bodyguard is in good hands he can let go.

And he ends up lying in the same room and he is thinking 'TR don't you dare die. That's an order.' And OMG, he faints and he is seeing Soo-Ah in his imagination.

*dies dies dies dies dies*

And he is unconscious and Secretary Girl is trying to touch his face and he is really out of it so he whispers 'Soo-Ah?'

*dies again*

And he eventually comes to and his first words? 'How is bodyguard?'

Seriously.

I love him.

Of course, meanwhile, there is also stuff about investigation, and Mr. Suh smirking quietly about JH missing the meeting (Soo-Ah instinctively comes to JH's defense even though he has no idea why as they didn't give reason as they didn't want publicity).

This is beyond awesome.

Nope. I finished ep 9 months ago and got stuck.

It's such a pity because for the first 4-5 eps it was incredible and then it's like they had a brain aneurism.

Mind you, I don't think the following eps were awful or anything, but they were very draggy. The pace ground to a crawl. I was in a parodoxical situation of liking individual scenes but thinking the whole was sloooow.

Plus, it got emotionally exhausting to see what next calamity would fall the woobies.

They were in a happy place in 9 but I knew there were 7 more eps and it would likely involve him pushing her away again and I didn't think I could emotionally deal.

I do plan to finish it eventually but in small doses...

I remember abandoning Green Rose after, like, 2 episodes a while back, but your commentary gave me hope, so I ff'ed through most of the beginning last night. The first 9 episodes were so terrible, just because I am not one for continual PAIN (of the unromantic sort). It is getting much better, now that revenge is on the way and angst by the bucketful. I think I shall ff'ing w/ ep. 10, ahahha.

The main couple is good together, though. Main guy is smoking hot and such acting! And Lee Da Hae has never looked better. Straight hair is so GOOD for her. *loves*

Actually, I liked the pain stuff (though yeah, I did find it heartbreaking to watch at some point…so much misery) because it was rare to see a drama that wasn’t primarily romantic in its pain and yet worked. But yeah, it was getting me depressed, I admit. It got a bit draggy for a few eps there when he was in China. Necessary in retrospect to establish the secondary characters, but still draggy. I agree though that I enjoy the part where he comes back and everything onwards the most. It really picked up amazingly. The previous stuff was IMO good but so (understandably) depressing, I was just a bit too emo over it.

Main couple is awesome, agreed. It’s the first thing I’ve seen Go Soo in but I want to see more. He angsts soooo well and does that emo-tortured-passionate-eyes thing I love really well. And LDH is luminous in this one. It’s so weird to see her so serious but it works.
