Lawyers: Episode 1
Jun. 25th, 2009 12:33 pmI finished ep 1 of Lawyers of Korea, and it's official: I love it.

I love the four main characters: Lawyer Heroine, the ex-spouses Min Gook and Ae Ri, Ae Ri's lawyer. I love the secondaries so far: Min Gook's driver, Heroine's office manager, even the gossipy reporters.
I am also amused at the fact that I know the OTP of LoK are Heroine and Min Gook and I just boggle - I mean, how on earth? (I confess that I have yet to understand why the flisters love Min Gook - he is amusing, yes, and not a horrible person or anything, but my main feeling so far is 'you are odd.')
I have to say, my main "hook" right now, is I want to know what on earth went in Ae Ri and Min Gook's marriage to make them divorce - whose fault is it and why do they act the way they do. It's pretty clear it was a love match, and Ae Ri seems to still have feelings for Min Gook, given the way she acts in his presence. So it's not lack of love on her part, and I also doubt she cheated or similar - she doesn't seem the type (she is portrayed positively, clearly) and also she acts as if she is the one who's been wronged by him - see her comment to her lawyer that what she'd really like is to have her ex grovel for mercy (but she'll settle for the cash). Plus, there is that document she showed her attorney, after which he got a lot more optimistic about her case.
So is it Min Gook walking out on her? That does seem to be corroborated by their interaction - he doesn't demonstrate any interest in her at all during their meetings (or much of any emotion, not even bitterness) while she is rather emo (he is not mean or even icy, but just completely lacking in interest, as if she were a casual acquaintance). He only gets upset when she starts going after his $$$. But why would he lose interest so drastically? It was clearly a love match before and while the gossip reporters are all about his fights and affairs, if he were a violent cheater, he would not be the hero of a kdrama romcom, trust me.
So what went on????
Actually, as of now, I find Min Gook amusing and even likeable, I cannot imagine him emotionally engaged at all, romantic, or truly angsty etc. But I guess that's part of the fun! To see how it goes.
