I'll get to replies. Sorry, been busy now which is why less replying and posting :)

But anyway. I have cheated and watched the end of Taiyou No Kisetsu

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! Why??????? Have they been gorging on kdramas what why argh stab am incoherent. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH.

I still love the drama and I see how it works in context actually if I want to, but...

The hell. Everything got sort of sorted out and then Tatsuya's ex (the one he seduced as revenge) tries to stab him and Eiko tries to stop it and in trying to cross the road to him gets hit by a truck.

Huh?

I knew she was going to die at the end (with VOs the way they were, it was no shock) but this is the most random thing ever, like one of those kdramas where it's out of nowhere just for angst.

I am not seething or anything because I can see they wanted to do a theme: Tatsuya's wrong-doing caught up with him. After wrecking Shinji he shouldn't ride off into the sunset. In fact, there is a symmetry: Tatsuya set out to seduce the girl (blanking on name) to take the most important thing in Shinji's life (his fiancee) away from him. And so it's sort of karma that his actions resulted in his losing the most important thing to himself: Eiko.

Except:

1. Tatsuya already felt so horrible earlier he tried to kill himself. So he is hardly 'lalalalala everything worked out for me, see ya suckers' and

2. Ummmm. Breaking a couple up (and sorry, if the fiancee really loved Shinji like Shinji loved her, it wouldn't have worked. If Mr. Mousie's friend tries tactics like that all that would have happened is me telling the friend off and telling Mr. Mousie about the louse his buddy is) is not the same order of magnitude as losing that most important to you person permanently to the grave. Theoretically, if Shinji and the girl wanted to hook up again, they could. And in any event, they weren't in mutual love blah blah.

So yeah, I see where they were going with it but

BUT

BUT

BUT

I can't take it. My poor little shipper's heart.

Ooooooooh. *wails*

Tatsuya. Eiko. Dammit.

Yeah. I was waiting to see what you thought of the end, because I didn't like it at all - it came out of nowhere and was completely senseless - all the points you make are exactly my frustration with it. Grrrr.

It wasn't as senseless as the ending of Glass Slippers (I don't think you'll ever watch it as it's a super long kdrama) where everything got resolved and then the hero got hit by a car saving a random child (yes, indeed).

I could see where they were going with it, so I'll cut them slack it's just...it felt very unfair. Especially to Eiko. She's never wronged anyone at all (yeah, now I am talking about fairness to fictional characters, I am hopeless).

hmm...from the synopsis and such, i had figured he'd been dying. It DOES sound rather "just kill one or both for the angst"-ish(excludes Damo from this because, while there was a bit of that, it really was the only way it could end for the most part)

You know, I have an issue with these endings...you want to "punish" the guy for doing wron, so you kill his girlfriend who never hurt anyone(in comparison at least) to make him suffer so HER life ends while he gets to continue on living and eventually move on.

*has little tolerance for "angst to have angst" but is still interested*

It's a good drama anyway. Despite this. it doesn't drag (like Bali where I am 'argh, die already so it will be over'), the acting is good, I am a sucker for the messed-up protagonist, and Takki has never had chemistry as good as he does with the leading lady here.

did you ever finish bali? I've been wondering.

The Takky one is on my list of potentials for the order I'll likely post in the next day or two, if not tonight.

I got three eps left and I just got bored. I'll finish it because I am a completist but at this point I just want to smack all the protagonists because of their silliness.

Now I'm going to have to force myself to watch this. If I still do at all... I tend to hide from sad endings unless they just fit so perfectly that it feels right - where to end it any other way would be wrong.

I don't mind sad endings and I don't mind this one, actually. Just wish it was different. *sigh*

Wow. Well this is put on hold for me then. I'm already watching Autumn Tale. Thats all the angst and sadness I can take for now!

The hotness that is Won Bin made me cave, but darnit he's not sparing me any in this drama. Stay away, don't get sucked in because even though you know its gonna be so sad in the end, you can't help but get addicted.

I have never seen Won Bin in anything (yeah, I know). Has he been in anything cheerier?

He's been in FRIENDS with Fukada Kyoko. It's a really light and cute four ep drama. He's been in a couple of movies too, but I haven't seen any of those.

Thanks. I want to check out that drama now :)

It wasn't even just senseless and out of nowhere, but it's also not done very well. And THAT is what I can't get over.

Your comment about this being Love Contract like (earlier) is very on point, I think. It has this amazing OTP and not so amazing secondary characters and a wtf ending.

It's better than LC though: tighter written for one.

I can see where they were going with it but it seemed gratuitous. Maybe I am just a softie :)
