Angst and crack...

OK, Red River manga owns me.

I just got to the scene in volume 8 which made me die. Prince Kail has to remove the arrow from Yuri’s back and of course back then there is no anesthetic or anything so he has to cause all this pain to the woman he lurves. So he gets a heated dagger and then he holds her tightly and tells her to bite his shoulder because otherwise she’ll clench her teeth so hard she’ll hurt herself, and so OMG, he is cutting the arrow out of her so she is bleeding and in huge pain and she is biting down and so there is blood coming out of his shoulder now too and…seriously. Crack.

Did I mention that she got this wound because she was there during the assassination (by evil minions of the Queen) of Prince Zananza, Kail’s favorite brother and the closest friend Yuri had in the place? Angst. And then she wakes up all bandanged after a few days, in Kail’s gigantic bed and he comes in and she is all ‘sex, now? eeek’ and he is all ‘I am not the type to take advantage of a wounded woman, but I can’t sleep since Zananza’s death but with you in bed I can maybe fall asleep’ and there is kissing and sleeping (not of sexual variety) and seriously. Crack. And the best part? I am on volume 9 now and you know what strikes me? All the adventures, scheming etc aside, Kail and Yuri have an incredibly strong and functional relationship.

Speaking of crack, I just came across this upcoming mainland China drama, The Butterfly Lovers (Liang Shan Bo Yu Zhu Ying Tai). It sounds like a Chinese version of Romeo and Juliet and how could I not love a period drama about angsty lovers.

Plot: A beautiful girl disguises herself as a man and lives under one roof with a young male scholar for three years without revealing her true identity. They become "sworn brothers," soul mates and then lovers. In a world in which marriage is determined by social status and arranged by parents, what is their inescapable Romeo-and-Juliet-type of fate?

Drama sounds good(but then, unless it sounds bad, i'll check out almost any mainland china period drama) BTW, the seller you originally directed me to(havent had a chance to look into the new one yet, sadly) has a nice selection of them.

considering that you are the originator and thus pretty much the sole cause of my entire dorama collection(as well as the final push towards several anime) I feel NO guilt anytime I'm called evil, andtemptres, or an evil temptor.

Speaking of...get anymore SDK watched? I'm really curious about what you think of the plotline they chose to go with, and especially the ending.

I am on ep 6. I like it, though why they chose everyone to be a monster is a bit odd. They could still have the same powers without turning them into aliens from an 80s tv show :) I guess it's a bit more cinematic. I really wish Yukimura wasn't voiced by a woman though. I know they tend to do that but it's mildly distracting...

yeah, the monsters are annoying, but as i understand it, it was big at the time to have things like that, and "notthe way it should be" is one ofthe bigthemes.

They DO get females to dothe voices for guys a lot, don't they? Are you watching it dubbed or subbed? I don't know if thedubbed is a guy or a girl, but they do a very good job of being yukimura *tends to do rewatches dubbed because it lets her also do other things*

I hate dubs. Never ever watch them unless I have no choice. I want to hear the way it's supposed to be, even if they did give Yukimura a highpitched voice :D

I love love LOVE Kyo with that ninja girl who believes he killed her sis. Ep 5 is where I went from liking to loving anime!Kyo. Plus? HOT. I need to read more (am on vol 13 but got sidetracked by Red River).

I have a high tolerance for dubs because I'm ADD and often, if I have to focus on just one thing, I end up not following it because without something to occupy corners of my brain, my mind wanders. If something is voiced in english, then i can tinker with things while still following but not worry about missing things. *hopes that made sense*

I think ep 5 was when i started loving anime kyo, too, and I think I liked anime-Mahiro before I liked manga-Mahiro. One thing I like about the anime is that, because of time constraints, a lot of things are more clear cut, more quickly, such as kyo/yuya, kyo/mahiro/mahiro's sister and mahiro/benitora.

Good news about making it to where you are in the manga before watching the anime is that you're pretty much spoiler-free, as far as learning things in the anime before you read them-aside from a bit of vol 14, pretty much everything in the anime that's from the manga is from that point and earlier.

and the second she is announced to be pregnant, rest assured that of the heroes, there will only be enough left alive, moderately sane and not evil to take care of the baby(fear not, the baby will be fine) and it doesn't have to be a parent.
