My most anticipated Bollywood movie of the year is, suprisingly, not a Shahrukh movie. It is Parineeta, starring Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan and Sunjay Dutt. Opens on the 10th of June. I just love the visual look of the movie (sepia and elegant), the fact that it is set in the 60s, and the fact that it appears to be rather literate (considering the source is a novel by a really classic author). Plus, it has a star-crossed love story (the author seems fond of flawed men who are loved by women much too good for them. See Devdas), and Saif in serious angst. Trust me to look at an actor primarily known for his funny scatterbrains, and prefer him the most when he angsts (eeeee, love the angsty scenes in Hum Tum). Oh, and it might end up being that super-rare BW movie where NONE of the outfits are cringe-worthy.

I have posted previously about the movie (with pics)in my lj here.

So, without much ado, more Parineeta pics:

Angst, glorious angst! Angst away, Saif! Though in my (admittedly biased) opinion, what woman would prefer Sunjay to you?

The high collar makes Saif look like a clergyman. But he is still hot. Oh, and have I mentioned the angst??????

Saif finds out that the 1812 Overture, that he has labored over for years, has already been written. But on the plus side, he still has that gorgeous house:

The earrings are gorgeous, but I keep getting distracted by the bloodshot eye:

And speaking of blood-shot eyes. Just how hard DID the cast party on this shoot?

Mmmmm, outfits! Love them!

She is gorgeous. Though since she is a girl, I am indifferent to her angsting capabilities.

Sunjay: "What do you mean: 'Take the girl but give me what's on your tray.'"
Saif: "Well, I am starving!"

"Plus, it will give me an opportunity to brood artistically later."

"Hah! No deal. I demand MY share of angst!"

ETA: Forgot one. my favorite

Isn't it obvious? You marry the rich guy and keep the cute guy on the side.

You say that like it's a bad thing... I admit that the idea of a hot guy in a priest outfit has always been a secret weakness of mine. And I hate Thornebirds, mind.

Dude, that's like the premier reason I got involved with Bollywood.

But not even men in dresses could save Hulchul (pictured above) :)

You wound me, Hulchul is one of my fave BW movies, despite the weak second half. It's all about the Anjali/Jai dysfunction for me. Thought they rocked.

Besides, I thought that the whole family set up (Amrish Puri hates women, so he adopts male children as his sons, plus shot-gun wielding grandma!) were quite amusing.

I saw the preview for this when I saw B&B. It looks beautiful. And yes, while I haven't seen a Saif film yet, I was definitely sighing when they showed him all angsty. This looks like it's going to be a great movie. I can't wait to watch it.

Me too.

If you want a good Saif movie, watch Hum Tum. I love it.

BTW, I'm starting to think that your theory about heavy partying might be correct. => Saif has it, too.

This movie has a 30 crore budget! CRAZY! We'll see how it does! :)

It will never recoup...ever. Unless they do the smart thing and play it in the mainstream West theaters on the art circuit.

I agree, they are so screwed. But I'm selfish, so I don't care as long as *I* get to see it.

The weirdest is when movies like Bose take 25 crores to make, and they only release them on 30 screens. :P
