Here is the trailer for Virgin Snow:

Doesn't it look awesome?

I am partway through Takki's Romeo & Juliet and it's delightful. I definitely buy a girl falling at first sight/going after Takki (though I do think the love is a bit too sudden, they are so adorable together, I cannot complain). The scenes in the diner and on the bench and on the beach, all with the teasing? So cute. He is a bit more serious than she is because he's had a harder life, but overall adorableness is off the scale.

I got Yoshitsune too, but that will have to wait until I finish other stuff. I haven't even had time for ProDai and Liar Game ep 2.

And this brings me to the main topic of the post.

Do you have recs for good historical dramas? This means you, [livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore. I don't care if they are Chinese, Korean or Japanese. I've seen and loved Damo (as well as kmovies Untold Scandal and Duelist), and have Seven Swords, Musashi and Yoshitsune, as well as jmovie Shinobi. (I've actually seen a bunch of K/J/C period flicks.) Any other recs? I prefer hot men and swords to plotty women, but I'll take what I can get.

Emperor of the Sea sounds good. Anything else?

I tried to watch Yoshitsune, but there was just too much 'political intrigue' that I didn't have enough cultural context/knowledge for to fully understand, even though the subs were quite informative. It was very slow moving, too, like half the show must be just shots of people talking slooooowly and looking slooooowly out of windows and walking sloooowly towards their counterparts... but from what I'm told, post-ep 20 it gets very, very intense and action-filled.

I am very very shallow so I confess to mainly getting it for hot Takki with that sexy period ponytail :P

Seriously though, I know that taiga dramas tend to be slow, but I do find political intrigue really really fun (was history major in college so it rubbed off, I guess) and the sword-wielding and attractive cast is a bonus. I figure hey, if it gets too slow, there is always the ff button while reading subs...

people talking slooooowly and looking slooooowly out of windows and walking sloooowly towards their counterparts...

LOL. They did have to make it last for 40+ eps :P

It was mostly the slowness that turned me off... it made it so very boring to watch. But actually, I am waiting for the rest of it to be uploaded onto crunchyroll.com so I can just jump right into episode 20 and see if it actually does get more intense. I read the summary of the series on dramawiki and it gets really, really dark... child killing and seppuku, the whole works.

I am considering watching Senshingumi (I think that's how it's spelled?) instead because I know more of the actors (Odagiri Joe ♥_♥... I mean, just look at him!!) in it as opposed to just Takki in Yoshitsune.

PS. I watched ProDai, it was so cute. I always forget just how adorable Yamapi can be :P

I tend to ff at speed and read subs so we'll see. Hopefully it
ll cut down on the drag.

I didn't know there was a drama about the Shinsengumi. *meep* Must watch now.

didn't Yoshitsune have Oguri Shun too, or am I confusing it with something?

I bet it did get intense by the end because didn't he kill himself with the whole family?

Yes it did have Oguri Shun, he shows up I guess around episode 10? Can't remember, but I don't recall much about his story...

The other thing about these taiga dramas are the really spoilery narrator comments. My god. Thanks for telling me this guy's going to die.

Re: narrator comments. I think it's because people in Japan sort of know what happened to all of these people anyway, as it's historical drama, the way I know what happened to people in various estern histories...

Have you seen Jumong? I haven't seen it myself (TOO MANY EPISODES OMG.), but I've heard a lot of people saying it was good.

Oh, and I stole your vid and posted it, hope you don't mind! ~_^

Jumong stars Song Il Gook(also from Emperor of the Sea) and I am therefore willing to sit through 500000 as long as it has him looking good with a sword. *shallow*

And he plays the good guy this time.

Haven't seen Jumong (it seems much much too long).

And of course I don't mind. :)

That Jun Ki video is hilarious. I love that whoever was filming it cared so little about Jun Ki's actual dancing that she - I'm assuming it was a she - filmed just his torso and face!! Ha ha! (Also *swoon*)

I am assuming it was a she, too. A guy would have been drowned in all the palpable estrogen from the audience :)

I guess it's not really the kind of concert one drags one's boyfriend to.

Speaking of which, have you heard anything more about Rain?

Nope, just the Toronto thing. I am going to search around and see.

Btw, still interested in TRR this weekend?

Yeah, I hope it's a good movie, but even if not, it will be so pretty.
