I am marathonning Something Happened in Bali like crazy. I am already halfway through ep 6.

A big chunk of the reason for my love? Jung Jae-Min (portrayed by Jo In-Sung). Oh, how can I not go for a troubled, arrogant woobie bad boy? Seriously. In RL, I would never ever but in this drama I am totally riveted. I've found myself audibly exclaiming 'You are adorable!' at one point. It's a 20 ep series so I am forwarding through bits (reading subs) but I definitely don't forward when he is on screen. He has amazingly expressive eyes.

I am probably insane but he reminds me (a very very little bit) of Logan from VM.

Unless knocking your grown-up children down and then kicking them hard and repeatedly is an accepted parenting practice in Korea, I think Jae-Min's Dad has easily joined the pantheon of really hated drama parents. WTF???? Who the hell does that? Because your 27 year old son said he doesn't want an arranged marriage? To a girl who earlier and publically said she doesn't want to marry him either.

WTF?

*stabs*

But seriously, I totally get why Jae-Min stiffens every time his father is mentioned and he is definitely afraid of him. His father is always violent with him, and I guess the bigger the 'transgression' the more violent? Yikes. I also don't think he magically started on it when Jae-Min turned 21 so it must have been a fun household to grow in.

But eeee! Love the scene after that little 'incident' when Jae-Min gets up and still insists he won't marry what'sherface. And he'll find someone better and walks out. Yes, he is finally breaking free. Btw, I am impressed with him. He was totally fine with proceeding with the marriage and it's she who wants to call it off. And he told her he'll take care of it though he knows the trouble he'll be in. I'd just be 'hey, not my fault. She has a boyriend.' He can be totally brutal and arrogant and callous but he is sorta a soft touch under it all, isn't he? (Witness his behavir with Sung-Joo). Like the flunkie says to the Older Brother, 'you know how compassionate he can be.' (this being a lovely place it is, he says it like it's some kind of a defect).

Btw, Older Brother? I hate. He is always stirring trouble for Jae-Min, and Jae-Min is so outclassed in the little lair of wolves. He is kinda boyish still despite everything, isn't he? I am especially thinking of a scene where Sung-Joo calls him whether she can come see him and he gets all excited and cleans the place and puts wine on ice and then (totally hilariously) just sits on the sofa fidgeting trying to come up with the most 'nonchalant' pose he can. (That is when 'you are adorable' occured btw :D)

Favorite scenes so far?

1. After Sung-Joo saves Jae-Min and whatshisface (the other guy who bores me) from the gangsters, she walks off. It's winter and she is freezing, and she is huddled into herself, walking down the street and then you see the camera pan and Jae-Min is running after her, and he grabs her hand and runs off with her and buys her a really expensive coat and walks off and she stops him and asks him for bus fare :D

2. He finds out she is now working as a 'hostess' (it's the fault of the above mentioned gangster incident but he doesn't know it). And you can tell it's really bothering him and he doesn't know why and he finally goes there to that dive, dragging his rich friends with him and orders her in and then there is this scene which is actually probably my fave so far because he is totally devouring her with his eyes but he has no idea how to act and he is hurt and jealous and confused and sort of gloaty too, and he propositions her and she refuses and he leaves his card.

3. The scene I mentioned above with the visit. After she comes in, she basically asks for a loan of a LOT of money. And he tells her 'what if I won't?' She starts to walk off, thanking him for his time, but she is really desperate so she pauses and goes 'I can pay in other ways, like we talked in Bali or in the nightclub.'

DUDE. And there is a pause. And he drawls 'You flatter yourself. I am not attracted to you [deny, deny, deny].' And you see her face fall as her last hope is gone and then he continues 'I will loan you the money. Pay me back when you get a job. If you can't find a job, come and see me and I'll hire you.'

4. When he finally gets frustrated because she doesn't call and actually seeks her out at her slum and he is being all grumpy and all 'you should at least let me know you got the money' and 'come get a job' etc and then on the drive back he is hitting his head against the window going 'why did I do that?' Heeee.

I am also three and a half episodes into Taiyou No Kisetsu with Takki, and thoughts on it are behind the cut.

I was going to do meta and all but I am a bit braindead, so this is mainly a list of scenes that just kill me so far. GUUUUUH. The OTP in this one: damaged boy and innocent girl, just kills me.

1. The scene in the rain! The nasty 'friend' ended up trying to molest Eiko and she escaped and she is huddled in the rain because she has no money and she calls Tatsuya. And it's pouring rain and he goes out looking for her, with his plastic flimsy umbrella. And he ends up running everywhere, getting more and more desperate. And he finally finds her huddled, soaking wet. And she is so upset and lonely and firghtened and relieved, she throws herself into his arms and starts sobbing, and OMG his face. HIS FACE. Because he can't help but care. And he drops the umbrella he was holding over them, heedless of the rain. And his arms reluctantly but inexorably go around her and they clutch on for dear life.

2. The scenes that emphasize Tatsuya's put-on darkness. The scene in the bar where he is with his rich 'friends' and his true friend pretends he doesn't know him to save face for Tatsuya and you see the self-loathing on Tatsuya's face but he won't stop with the game. Or the (shocking) scene where he has sex with Shuji's fiancee when Shuji is right in the other room cooking dinner. It's true, Shuji's family ruined his and made his father kill himself. But Shuji himself is innocent of any wrong-doing and that is just...The thing I want to smack Tatsuya across the face but then I see his pain and vulnerability he so desperately tries to hide and I end up pitying him instead. That fiancee is a piece of work though. She is engaged to a guy who loves her. And Tatsuya is hardly forcing her. And after it all? She tells Tatsuya 'I still plan to marry the man who'll manage the company. But we can fool around.' *puke* I guess it's just as well Tatsuya wasn't really in love with her. In so many ways. Tatsuya is outclassed by these rich people despite the schemes.

3. The scene in hospital. He's come to return Eiko's purse to her and I love how normal and sweet and undamaged he is with her. He tries to caution her about the world and she won't listen and it might be naive but ironically it's that sunny purity that he desperately craves. And OMG, I love how the calm Tatsuya lost it so badly with creep guy and would have taken him apart if not stopped. Eiko makes him genuine. Makes his emotions come out.

4. Probably my favorite scene so far (even more so than the rain one). He is in his apartment, falling apart, and then Eiko calls. She plays her music for him and the music soothes him and you can tell how desperately he is trying not to fall off the edge. And then he can't hold it in and he tells her 'I want to see you. I miss you.'

OH BOY.

I think Eiko is allowing him to be himself. To be good.

5. And she is at the meeting place but the fiancee is there and he has to go off with her. But he feels awful for standing Eiko up (Eiko ends up just going to the hospital and meeting Tatsuya's friend there and the friend tells her how Tatsuya used to be such a good guy in school).

And OMG OMG, meanwhile it gets to be evening and Eiko has listlessly finished giving piano lessons and then her little pupil leaves and then runs back and grinning and drags her out and OMG OMG OMG. Tatsuya is there. He's waited outside all this time because he wants to apologize. And she accepts the apology (I love how she is sweet yet not a fool btw) and her simple acceptance is something he so desperately craves. And then Eiko's Mom (who is evil andthinking of ways to bust them up but they don't know it yet) invites him in and the chemistry between Tatsuya and Eiko is unbelievable and he is so young when he relaxes around Eiko and he gets carried away taking about the way home looks and it's just...*squishes the OTP together*

And then she walks him to the bus and she teaches him 'rock, paper, scissors' and they are a bit glowy because Eiko's mom gave them concert tickets to go together. And it's a date and oh WOOBIES.

And in unrelated news, here is proof why Bollywood celebrities are so much more fun that Hollywood. Yesterday was the wedding of Bolly superstars Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. The media frenzy was insane. Think Brangelina times 30.

And here is what the groom was wearing. Compare to a tux. See. Bollywood rocks.

The guy in Bali actually sounded a bit Logan-ish to me from your earlier descriptions, this post just made him sound moreso.

And that wedding pic is...uhm...*moves along*

LOL. Not what I want for Mr. Mousie clothes-wise, but I like the unusualness of it...

He is gorgeous, and ,ore so in that scene that you described. Have you seen the bit where he makes her take him to an expensive restaurant already? But here where my problem lies - the ending. It is not that I can't stand the angst and I like a bad ending sometimes, it is just that what he did is so pathetic and weak and all. ** weeps **

Nope, haven't gotten to that, hee.

Re: ending. I don't know, from what I've seen so far, I can totally see him doing that. I really really can.

I'd say the wedding outfit still rivals the hat Lee Shin had to wear in Goong. Those swinging bright beads were distracting & hilarious.

Someone else where commented that the mehndi on his hand is sometimes done in Tamil weddings. No idea. Aish's sarees were so pretty, very shiny.
