Still into Samurai Deeper Kyo...
Apr. 17th, 2007 07:19 pmOK, volume 5 of Samurai Deeper Kyo is where I went from ‘I like, should read more’ to ‘obsessed. MUST HAVE MORE NOW.’ The plot has finally kicked into super gear, with Kyo off to find the body inside this scary psycho forest, and the revelations of various clans (he was the head of one and then left) and his former best friend Akira who was in the clan who now switched sides because he is bitter Kyo left, and joined the group that now hunts Kyo, and that fact that Benitora is Iyeyasu’s son (whaaaa? AWESOME) and just everything. And Yuya is a little like Sakuya, a woman who we don’t know much about yet, but she’s disappeared and she is important to Kyo.
And Kyoshiro is the one who killed Yuya’s brother? He is the one she’s been hunting? Why? What? I am in love.
I’ve also decided to ship Kyo/Yuya in this volume. I mean, she is all jealous when he goes off with that assassin/messenger/weird troublemaker girl, and she is all freaked when she thinks he’ll die. And he comes to the forest to rescue her. Yeah, total ship potential.
Kyo seems very straightforward, interestingly enough. And rather with some simple wants (his body back, good fight, busty girls etc). And it’s true, I never noticed that before Yuya did, but he never lies, and he does have a code of his own.
YES.
LOVE.
ETA: And now I am through volume 7 and this is so complicated and convoluted and awesome. Also? Yeah, definitely Kyo/Yuya ftw. She goes all psycho when she thinks he is killed, and it’s the imminent threat to her life that brings out the berserker in Kyo (which is a feat considering he is berserk enough already). And then two of the 12 take Yuya because they know that she is important to Kyo and he won’t follow them if they have her, even if his own body is at stake.
YES.
Also, Yukimura is so my manga boyfriend. His deceptive laidbackness combined with total focus and protective streak is…GUUUUH. It’s like combining Kenshin and Aoshi into one.
ETA2: And there is Kyo/Yuya staring in vol 10. YES. You know, I really do like Kyo. He is very loyal to his friends.

Date: 2007-04-17 11:34 pm (UTC)i knew you'd be won over to my ship, though I figured it'd be Akira's stunt in vol 10(which got it's own post yesterday) and Kyo's reaction that would win you over. Usually, when Kyo talks about killing Akira(or Hotaru) he's all talk, but that's the one time he was series. And then his being all shy(for Kyo) about her gun...The thing about kyo/Yuya is that she has absolute faith in him, which he doesn't understand at all, and that he's psychotically overprotective, no matter how much he tries to hide it.(for another such scene, see vol 12) And most things weith Kyo-and the other characters-we don't really notice until Yuya does, which is cool.
Yukimura is awesome...his reactions when anyone hurts Sasuke(my favorite manga kid EVER) are...well, really really hot, actually, but very very deadly. You'll never see him more serious.

Date: 2007-04-18 02:17 am (UTC)The scenes that I really loved was when Yuya told Kyo she trusts him. You could tell it was such an usual thing for him to hear.
And yeah, the gun thing is adorable.
Another scene I loved was when whatshisname had two vesrions of Yuya and Kyo killed them both and the guy was 'how did you know they were both fakes' and Kyo was 'in case of doubt, my instinct is to kill' or something to that effect. Very Kyo.

Kyo has a Yuya radar. It can be scary at times.

I really love the way he just thrusts the gun back at her.
But yeah, I love how it's automatic for him to go psycho when she is threatened. Which makes Yuya his weakness, true, but also makes him have a life outside of 'yay, kill. Rest. fight and kill some more.'

Date: 2007-04-18 02:34 am (UTC)A lot of Kyo's old friends show up and try to kill Yuya because they think she makes Kyo weak...then they realizethat threatening her makes him really, really scary. It's actually really funny, because every time that happens they're all "KILLKILLKILLKILLKILL!!!" and then it's "Oh, Yuya's not mad at you? Ok, you can join the club." I call them the Yuya patrol because I swear, any time a bad guy shows up, every head swerves immediately to see who has Yuya.

Date: 2007-04-19 08:51 pm (UTC)Sorry to be a nag, but could you post spoilers like this under a cut in the future. You know I don't usually mind spoilers, but with some series (tv/manga/whatever) I like to be surprised (for example I've been very careful of avoiding spoilers for BSG). At the moment I'm only 4 books in on SDK and love the series, but didn't want to know that piece of information before reading the book myself :/.

Date: 2007-04-20 12:30 am (UTC)Didn’t realize anyone on my flist was interested in this except for meganbmoore and plazmah who knew this stuff already. For future reference, would you like me to spoiler-cut Wallflower and Fruits Basket as well? (I think those are the only other manga we currently both reading, though maybe I am confusing you with someone else re: FB).
The other ones I am reading are Platinum Garden, Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden, His Majesty’s Dog, and Vampire Knight but I spoiler cut those anyway as I know spoilerphobes who read those. I am also reading Haou Airen but I am definitely not spoiler cutting that one as it has no plot to be discussed :D

Date: 2007-04-20 01:02 am (UTC)I guess the only ones for which I'm currently avoiding (major) spoilers are SDK and Fullmetal Alchemist. His Majesty's Dog and VK might be others, but I have scanlations of VK up till book 4. I've only read 2 book of HMD at the moment.
I never can tell beforehand which ones will make me twitchy about spoilers and which ones will make me happily seek out every possible spoiler I can find. Go figure :/.
