Because vierran45 is evil and posted a very persuasive picspam, I started watching Takki's take on Romeo and Juliet. It's modern of course and is only 'inspired' by it.

I am loving it. Not only is it gorgeously shot (usually I find the way jdramas are shot inferior to the crisp beauty of kdramas but not here) but OMG! The cuteness.

I mean, people, I am barely five minutes in, and Takki has saved a kitten from being run over. Almost getting run over himself in the process. How can you not love that? :D

Seriously. This thing has no subs and I don't care.

Also, the female lead is adorable which is awesome as she is the female lead in Yamapi's new upcoming drama.

I am almost tempted to do liveblogging but it would probably be 'OMG, he is so hot, OMG they are so adorable, pretty pretty leaves squee etc' repeated ad nauseam.

ETA: OMG, their first meeting is to die for and it's love at first sight and I love how he is struck dumb by her. But I am struck dumb by him. Seriously, it should be some sort of a classified weapon to be this gorgeous.

Urm...can't really think of anything weird...they're childhood friends and he's dating someone else, but it's obvious(including to his girlfriend) that he'll always put her first, and even though they both insist that their relationship isn't like the, the girlfriend eventually just backs out rather than waiting around to get dumped so that she can still be friends with both.

The way they handled that is actually one of the reasons I like DZ so much, because it(like most of the show) just has this "real" feel to it. The GF goes into the "jealous girlfriend" area a bit, but it's understandable...I mean...this girl is always around her boyfriend and he's always checking up on her and it's not like she's stalking or spying on them or anything...people come up in class and tell her about it and she's sitting there looking like she's being cheated on and wants to get to the bottom of things. Eventually, she figures out that just because they haven't figured it out yet doesn't mean she should wait around for them to, and takes care of it. She knows it's not intentional and that she's not being cheated on(and he does do his best to be a good BF, it's just obvious that she doesn't come first, and she doesn't see why she should settle for being second best and hey, she shouldn't) I figure she's going to be the one to sit them down and explain the facts of lifelong OTPing to them once she's over them(of course, the fact that I already liked Aragaka Yui from My Boss, My Hero likely affects my positive opinion of the GF)

Heeee. It will be like Hanadan2 all over again, with a gazillion subbers. YES. When does that start anyway? Because normally I don't watch raws unless there is no other choice (as in subs would take months if ever get there) but for Yamapi I am planning to make an exception :D And for MatsuJun's 'Bambino' of course. Guuuuuh, liveblogging madness will begin again :D Oh dramas, how you spoil us. :)

YAY! I got so depressed wehn reading the D-Addicts Liar game forum on Staurday, everyone saying how good it was... it had Chinese subs then... Matsuda Shota is kinda really really hot... Plus, the premise sounds cool.

It's a bit of a deja vu. When we first moved to the US, I didn't speak any English but I'd watch historical dramas anyway and would try to figure out what was going on on pure guess.

It was incredibly cute (and I was totally overusing that word in my squee-filled post on the drama :))! I really liked the Takki/Masami pairing in this and am now very much looking forward to seeing her in Proposal Daisakusen.

The story was fairly easy to follow even without subs, but there were a few times I was really wishing I could understand what they were saying.

Sexy Voice & Robo

is another live action manga adaptation. The manga's currently unfinished due to either a fallout between the mangaka and the publishing house or the mangaka having a case of writer's block. Talking about the drama now: it centers around a 14 year old school girl who's become tired of being a part of the Japanese rat race, and is searching for something meaningful, or at least something *interesting*. She has the talent of voices and the ability of a pure ear that can remember voices. She witnesses a horrific act of violence one day and disturbed, realizes she needs to tell someone, but who? She settles on calling a lonely hearts line and tells her secret (in a hilariously coy baby doll 'sexy' voice) to a otaku, who instead of hearing about a cute girl's day, is an unwitting accessory to a crime! The otaku is a 20 something salary man who basically has the social skills of an adolescent boy, and is obsessed with anime and robots. Now where anywhere else you might think: uh oh, social misfit with possibly skeevy, child-molesting tendencies (I saw the 20/20 special on this!), somehow in Japanese drama land, he really just comes off as harmless, really geeky and shy, and kind of adorkable.

Niko (the school girl) arranges for Robo (he has another name, but Niko dubs him Robo after seeing his robot collection, and it's just too fitting) to check out the crime scene, and he just finds a box full of receipts and what looks like regular rubbish.

He also has a near breakdown of fanboy glee over finding a perfect replica of a Max Robo figurine, with a serial number that matches up to his birthday (it must be destiny). Problem is that it's 200 dollars, and he's torn between wanting it and the large price tag - which Niko takes care of by revealing her emergency money and buying the robot for him.

An unlikely friendship forms (really, if this was another format and the age gap between the two leads wasn't so immense, they would be an OTP in the romantic sense) between Niko and Robo, as they try to figure out the mystery between the crime and the box that's left behind. There's an amnesiac Memento-type guy, a weird fortune teller lady, and the entire set up is reminiscent of the Scooby Doo mystery cases mashed up with 'slice of life' quirkiness that the Japanese seem to adore, as Niko (now dubbed Sexy Voice) and Robo team up to solve mysteries and help the helpless. The second episode involves cosplay, and I'm waiting for it to be released, with subs.
