I need to watch The Outsiders. It's a Taiwanese drama about love and friendship and gangs and everything and kitsune714 has been raving about it.

Synopsis from SilentRegrts: Story revolves around three sworn brothers namely Yu Hao (Dylan Kuo), Shan Zi (Lan Cheng Long) and Yang Xiong Qi (Michael Zhang). They are delinquents, fighting to gain what they want, though they have never officially joined any triads yet. Their leader Hao falls for Xiao Yan Zi (An Yi Xuan), who is the opposite of everything that the boys are. She is from a family with very good background and has a bright future as a budding pianist. An ambush on Hao by a rival gang brings them together when Yan Zi saves Hao.

I held off though because it's not completely subbed yet.

But I don't care now.

I just saw the below MV and it's everything I ever want in a drama.

Please tell me where I can dl it (preferably not bittorrent but I'll use it if I have to). I know it's not entirely subbed but I don't mind watching the later eps unsubbed.

ETA: I found eps 1-8 subbed at SR. Are any more subbed and if so where can I find them?

According to kitsune714, it was a rare drama where the second season was as good as the first.

Did I mention that I hate everyone who understands Mandarin while I cannot? No? Consider it mentioned :)

Funnily, I can pinpoint the exact moment in that first MV where I went from 'this looks really good, should download soon' to 'I am dling first eight eps as we speak and do I really need sleep tonight?' It was when the female lead showed the hero the tattoo on her back.

But I don't like Dostoyevsky. Like Tolstoy though and there is some awesome Russian scifi and French novels translate much better into Russian than English.

Still, I am greedy. Maybe I should just kidnap you or kitsune714 and force to watch it with me, but alas kidnappings are illegal :P

Have you read the american book or watched the movie "The Outsiders"? It's also about a group of delinquents and there is also a girl that a couple of them fall for who is from the right side of the tracks. It's a high school story though, but VERY good! I highly recommend.

I'll have to re-read it one of these days - I often sell it to middle schoolers, it's a classic for lit classes. I think S.E. Hinton wrote a sequel to it several years later, or maybe it was just a new book.

It's not really based on the Hinton novel. The name of the series (the Chinese title is "Dou Yu", or "Fighting Fish", which was the name of the gang in the novel) and the general premise (bad boys and gangs) pay homage to the American books, but as far as I know, the drama isn't related at all.

See?! I told you! The Outsiders is one of the best Taiwanese dramas out there, and while some of the story may seem like you've seen it before, well...look, it hits every single one of my drama kinks, and it does it well. None of the characters are perfect, and that's what I love. They all do things during the course of the story that make me irate but in a good way. I saw this drama as it was airing, and when they announced the sequel, I spazzed, because I wondered how on earth they were going to accomplish it (you'll see why I was so confused when you finish this). But the sequel isn't really a sequel -- I think of it as fanfic come to life! Because it addresses the happenings of an ENTIRE time jump that occurs in the first series. I like to lump both series together, because really, The Outsiders works so much better with The Outsiders II. The entire first third of The Outsiders is like your standard drama fare, good girl, bad boy, motorcycles, etc., but this drama hit its stride midway through, and really won me over, forever, because there was serious character evolution, and it wasn't just a teen drama about star-crossed love anymore. It was about the underworld and trauma and friendship and angst and deceit and bonds being broken and forged and innocence lost, and oh, oh, it is all the things you love and more.

I am fairly certain you can find this series on ebay, or yesasia, but whether or not there are subs, I can't say. Still, though, it is totally worth it, and I always want to recommend it to people, but am hindered because of the lack of English subs.

And the first season is available on DVD, though I haven't checked for the second one. Original Mandarin language and Chinese subs, but that's not a problem for me. It sounds very intriguing - I'm dling the first episode, and if I like it, I might just go down to Rowland Heights and buy it at the supermarket.

EEEEEE!!!! Just watched the first 2...now I want to see more. I think what sent me over the edge for wanting it(like I said, been wanting it for a while) was when he made the vus stop for her, then rode off with that "yes, I was a good OTP" smile...and then his looking so scared and nervous about giving her the necklace.
