Yet another manga for me to fall for...

dangermousieMeeeep. I started on volume 4 (yes, I gobbled them) of Her Majesty’s Dog and it’s official. HMD is LOVE. Total love.
HMD is an 11 volume manga about (and I quote) In today’s world of computers and cell phones, few people have time for superstition and ghost stories—but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t real! Amane Kamori might be a high school transfer student standing out in her Tokyo school, but she is also a powerful medium from a remote village in rural Japan. Her guardian is Hyoue Inugami, a demon (high school boy in his normal shape, dog in his supernatural fighting one) whose powers are literally fueled by her kiss (or any touch, really). Together they protect humans from vengeful spirits and bring peace to the dead. Now if they could only figure out that they are an OTP and get on with it :D
I love Amane, with her combo of pragmatism, down-to-earthness, and rl cluelessness. And how can you not love Hyoue? He is protective and funny, and easily flustered, and has a temper and is totally putty in Amane’s hands. He reminds me a bit of Tamahome and also of Fruits Basket's Kyo (in a lot of ways but especially in his brash manner concealing a desperate desire to belong and be 'normal'), and considering Tamahome is my anime bf and Kyo my manga one, that’s not a bad thing. And Amane/Hyoue are such an adorable, funny, sweet OTP. Heeee.
ETA: Yikes! I am at volume 4 and noooo! They sneaked up on me and socked me with the angst. Must get next volume QUICKLY or I die. OMG. Poor Hyoue. Btw, I really dislike Amane’s cousin even though he’s hot. You shouldn’t treat a sentient being that way, not even Dobby the House Elf, and Hyoue is far from Dobby.
ETA2: OMG noooo. Evil, evil, evil to put in angst now. It lured me in with the fluffienss and now bam...volume 5 and angst! No no no. Hyoue is not allowed to angst. Neither is Amane, but especially Hyoue. But I think this is when I went from 'really really liking' to 'rabid fangirl,' sometime between the end of vol 4 and the flashback in 5. Btw, I really don't like Amane's clan. They are hardly the Sohmas, but they are awful the more I learn about them. Btw, saying 'I want to be human' is hardly a horrible sin. *glares*

meganbmoore, I also found and got first three volumes of Platinum Garden and it looks good. Nope, not picturing Yamapi and Maki as the leads at all. Nope. *looks shifty* Also, somehow, by mistake (don’t ask) I ended up with a volume of Pokemon. I’ll kill myself now. Or try to return it first.

Date: 2007-04-12 01:32 am (UTC)I ADORE the flashback...absolutely adore...chibi amane is just so insanely cute(and I like Hyoue when he's not dressed like a modern teen) I know what you mean about the human bit...but a large part of that is that, really, he only exists to protect Amane(well, his current master...but he's so picky about his masters that it may as well be the case)
And WOOT! to Platinum Garden(we haven't seen much of them yet, but I think THAT family matches the Sohmas in evil)
But, POKEMON!!!!!! That's like, the kind of mistake you never admit to and hope no one ever notices. Not that you post so that it can be used to torment you for all eternity. *innocence*

Date: 2007-04-12 02:16 am (UTC)But that's the thing, he doesn't really. I mean he does, voluntarily, but he could sit in that tree forever blah blah (as you point out he is immensely picky) and wanting to change his nature isn't bad or anything. He has a right to wish just as anyone does.
I just finished vol 6 yesterday...there is far more angst headed your way...far, far more...
Nooooo! The thing is, the angst in absolute terms here isn't backbreakingly themost awful thing ever yet (not like Fruits Basket or Ceres) but it's huge in that I love the characters and don't want them to suffer.
Ironically, I started this and was all 'ooooh, funny and light, good counterbalance to other angsty stuff.' Heh.
Platinum Garden(we haven't seen much of them yet, but I think THAT family matches the Sohmas in evil)
I am only one volume in, so not sure about the extent of their evilness but I will not that doing the whole 'here, Mizuki, we want some cash, so how about you bring the dead back despite the fact that it's going to make you psychologically messed up and self-loathing, and oh, physically cipe you as well' is not really a lovely thing to do.

Oh, I agree that he doesn't just exist for that, but they have issues seeing Hyoue and co as anything but that capacity.
Agreed. That's what bugs me about it. It's sort of the house-elf thing only writ large and as if the whole lot of them were Barty Crouches.
Re: angst. Yeah, I know it's not unbearable but as you put it 'it's not wanting angst' because Hyoue and Amane are such adorable darlings and I totally just want to protect them and similar.

Date: 2007-04-21 02:31 am (UTC)And I've been reading the scans for Platinum Garden for a while now, too. I think I've reached somewhere in Volume 6. I can't picture Pi as that type of megane character either. But it's an excellent story.
