Wel, another lovely day where I learn to ask for the check and order things off the menu by guessing: it worked out fine, since it was Extremadura cuisine and I just pointed and hoped for the best.

We went to Toledo today, an absolutely amazing medieval city. It is the setting forone of my favorite ever books: Spanish Ballad by Leon Feuchtwanger (about a star crossed and reallife love affair between King Alfonso and a daughter of his Jewish finance minister), so it was doubly fun. I took about a hundred pictures and saw a church that was so ornate that (according to Andrew) it made St.Peter´s look shabby. I guess the locals weren´t big on the ¨poverty¨ part.

The Monastery was absoultely gorgeous and peaceful except for the bizarre chains hanging off to the side the meaning of which I have yet to figure out.

Tomorrow off to Cordoba...

Oh, and saw a man with an R2D2 and C3PO shirt. I guess SW fever is certainly here.

Also, SW thoughts:

1. Proof of Jedi ossifying: they set to spy on Palpyetc not because they think he is Sith but (at least the way they explain it) he is curtailing the Jedi. Bad, bad, bad.

2. Obi Wan, you poor man. You shouldn´t confuse Anakin further by saying he should do the Council´s bidding while indicating you don´t believe in what they are proposing. That just messes him up more. If the guy is confused, you should sit him down and explain, especially if he is a person who does not deal well with ambiguity. Also, probably should have been a bit less of a disciplinarian, since certain people will only rebel and not cave in at last.../randomness....

Anakin was honestly paired with the worst Master for his issues that the Council could think up. Obi Wan had been taught to question authority by Qui Gon and then Obi Wan inadvertantly passed on that belief with his padawan. Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Anakin all seemed to question authority when that is distinctly frowned upon by the Council. Interestingly they're the most effective Jedi we see, but they're also the ones that cause the Jedi Order to be unstable because they don't really fit into the system.

There's also that rather odd and slightly unsettling part that the Jedi Council is going to take over the Senate. The Jedi Council is about to do the exact same thing that P-Diggity was trying to do.

So true. I do find the whole ¨Jedi taking over¨ truly disturbing. good reason or not, they would be doing a Palpatine. It looks like the republic was doomed no matter what.

Not fitting the system: yup. And that is why the system needs an overhaul.

I was rewatching The Phantom Menace, and Obi Wan seemed to deal just fine with the ambiguous clues that Qui Gon gave him. I don't think he realized that Anakin would not just be accepting of the orders of his "superiors".

But that is the problem. Someone with Obi-Wan´s even temparament and calm being would deal with ambiguities a lot better.

Word to both. I know it's probably been done by now, but I want to write dark AU fic where Anakin let Mace kill Palpatine and the Jedi took over the Senate.

The moral of the prequels is that the Jedi order - stoic and badass as it might be - is fundamentally flawed. Forbid attachment? Rip people away from their mothers and not allow them to go home ever again? Disallow romantic love? The irony comes at the end of the tale when love - the ultimate undoing of the Jedi in the first place - proves to be the ultimate undoing of the Sith as well, as opposed to some fancy lightsaber technique. Perhaps Yoda and Obi-Wan learned the lesson, and perhaps Luke would start the Jedi order again with more reasonable guidelines.
