Am officially dead now. See why I don’t care about how correct the history in The Tudors is:
While accessing my email, I scrolled by some news site that was discussing that Angelina Jolie plans to adopt again, from yet another different country. Good Lord, this is making me think of a menagerie, or maybe instead that one episode of Family Guy where Stewie got temporarily taken into a family of hippie, rainbow-children-collecting freaks. :P Well, I suppose there are worse ways for Brad Pitt to have a midlife crisis than to hook up with a botoxed Mother Teresa wannabe. After all, Tom Cruise is a warning and a fearsome example to us all.
Argh. I just read an article on manga that made me see red. It was saying how it’s disturbing and bad that a lot of manga features really submissive girls and pushy men. Fine, whatever, though personally I think people should read what they want (‘what are we teaching our young’ arguments annoy me in general), and if you don’t like, don’t read manga, or find one of the many many titles that have strong heroines. That’s not what pissed me off. They listed Hana Yori Dango as one of them. WTF!!!! Makino is one of the strongest manga girls out there. And yeah, Domyouji is rude etc etc but the whole freaking point is that Makino is every bit a match for him and dishes out as much as he does. He loves her because she is strong-willed and capable. It’s hardly a ‘poor weak woman putting up with an aggressive guy’ scenario. Also, one of the main Hanadan points is about Domyouji growing up and learning to be human and becoming a person. And he certainly pays for any transgressions tenfold with what Makino puts him through. Anyway. RANT. I get the feeling the stupid article author just read the first three volumes (though how she got opressed weakling Tsukushi out of it I still have no idea). Fine. But don’t write a freaking article about it, then!!!
P.S. Signs the Apocalypse is near: when on the train home you are puzzling over whether the man and woman next to you are a couple or father and daughter and at the end of almost twenty minutes are still unsure. Ugh.

Date: 2007-04-06 11:28 pm (UTC)A large part of that argument(the times I've seen it) is they don't get that with the culture difference, the fact that a girl who is actually in a position to choose her own life(even when it's a traditional one-married, babies, etc) is almost the equivalent(here) of a woman in the yop of a male dominated field. In general, most mangas(the ones i stick with at least) DO tend to have pushy males, but usually the females are just as pushy.

Date: 2007-04-06 11:37 pm (UTC)I see Henry was a fan of body wax and romance novel covers. You see, I was originally in on this thing for Henry Cavill, who is hot, and I have rarely been all for JRM. Alas, now that JRM has gotten a bit more masculine looking and gained a six pack (I nearly typed sex pack, how Freudian) I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers any longer.
I remember that episode of Family Guy and the "click, bloody click, PANCAKES". Hee.

Re: JRM. Exactly. He was a bit too sknny and effeminate looking for me to find him really hot but now...whoa.
And gosh, I love Family Guy.

Date: 2007-04-07 12:09 am (UTC)but i'm trying to stay coherent since i want to know who and what published that article on manga because seriously which ones did they read i read some great mangas with strong heroines.. and i'm seeing red with the comment that tsukushi was a subservient female... ummm she kicked ass and stood up for herself... it's sad that the author never asked female manga readers about this particular issue and sometimes what one person who doesn't understand what they are reading thinks the heroine is weak of submissive maybe they should read an entire series of one cause sometimes they might seem like that but they are not as you read it later on... sorry now i started ranting..
back to the tudors, i am waiting for monday so i can watch the new eps at my moms since she has showtime on demand... if king henry looked like jrm i would have probably paid more attention
