Watched more of The Tudors and really. How can people object to it when there is so much hot male (and female if that's your thing) flesh about, either in period clothes or verrrrry naked? Seriously. I know I sound shallow but oh well. Plus, all that carping about JRM not looking like Henry. I find myself not caring when I stare at the cheekbones. The history is screwy but I have no problem just viewing it as some AU fantasy type stuff. Sexy fun fantasy, that is. I know this will brand me a total heretic on my flist, but I like it so much better than Rome, which was also pretty ahistorical but also had characters I wasn't very interested in and no sex appeal :) The Tudors otoh, has no redeeming brain value but it way way too fun.

And also, on a shallow note. I have started Sensual Phrase, the manga I mentioned earlier, and heeeeee. I am on page eight or so and the hero is already groping the heroine where people don't unless they are fairly well aquainted (upper leg, if you must know). Heeeee. If The Tudors is my guilty TV pleasure, Sensual Phrase is my guilty manga pleasure. Except I don't feel guilty in the least :)

I've never seen Rome (though I have heard good things about it), but I have to admit that I came to "The Tudors" because I wanted to see JRM in ruffly shirts. I mean, I love European history, I am interested in really nerdy things like the War of the Roses and stuff, but I definitely knew that I wasn't watching this program for any educational purposes. ;) That's what the History channel is for!

And then Showtime being brilliant did us one better and got him without any shirts at all :P

y'know, my firstthough when I saw groping was Samurai Deeper Kyo, where Yuya would be happy if ALL he did was grope her upper leg. (Actually, SDK is a very good example of a manga that starts as a guilty pleasure then turns awesome once the mangaka gets settled in.)

The "no reddeming brain value" comment scares me.(And really, do people think Henry was BORN obese?)

Well, it's not stupid (like Sensual Phrase is stupid) but it's clearly all about emo and intrigue and nekkid not some philosophical meditationon life and death :)

Honestly I don't even thing The Tudors tried to market itself as being extremely realistic. It's no worse than those trashy Phillipa Gregory novels that everyone keeps saying are the best thing ever.

Let's put it this way, would we rather see a studly, beautiful, be-cheekboned Henry lolling about in a state of undress with the ladies or a weightier, hairy, greasy Henry lolling about in a state of undress. I think we all know the answer to that. One does not wish to go through bottles of brain bleach just for authenticity's sake.

Exactly.

Re: Henry. Seriously. Plus, I doubt he was born fat and with double chins...

Rome had no sex appeal? o_O Oh, well! More hot Romans for me. :D

The Tudors = nekkid pretty. I just have to turn off my history-loving brain and enjoy it.

I know everyone thinks James Purefoy is hot but he really didn't do it for me. Maybe because he was scummy but not charismatic scummy, if it makes sense?

I meant the tall (6'4"), burly, violent Titus Pullo. Sigh.
