I watched ep 2 of The Devil and it is just as awesome and twisty and incredibly shot and gorgeously acted as ever. I like how we begin to see cracks in the characters' facades, too. The Rumpled Sexy Cop isn't just an adorable crime-solving goofball, but he can get worried, and devastated, and incredibly understatedly sweet (OMG, the bit with the flower pot for the Psychic Librarian). The Sexy Deadly Lawyer isn't just all hard surfaces and impenetrable armor, but someone who can be amused and touched (even if a little) by Psychic Librarian, and someone who can be hurt (the scene in the darkness with him burning the photograph, tears in his eyes). And Psychic Librarian is more than well-socialized cheerfulness. This isn't a gift she wants, and she can be giddy or mad or just plain awesome.

Anyway, unspoilery, IMO, caps from ep 2.

Seance:

Cop and Lawyer meet face to face:

As I said, so pretty!

Various shots I like:

SQUEE. Yes, I ship Killer Lawyers and Psychic Librarians, as I said earlier. Whatever :)

More pretty shots:

A-hem.

Heeee. Sexy Deadly Lawyer volunteers at a church soup kitchen (and also takes up cases of poor people for free). Yet, he still manages to come across as not quite human.

Except in scenes like this:

More prettiness:

And you see a little beneath the facade with scenes like this:

How I love you, Rumpled Hot Cop!

In other news, I am sure that flisters are already know, but Japan is about to remake The Devil with Satoshi Ohno as the Lawyer and Ikuta Toma as the Cop. My one reaction is a horrified WTF. My God. That is so wrong on so many levels, I don't even want to start. Leaving aside the casting (because that is a whole other rant and would occupy too much space*), squishing 20 hour-long eps' worth of story into 10 45-minute ones is rather a disaster. Oh well, at least the kdrama TPTB will get $$$ out of it :P

* OK, I lied. Casting rant. I have never seen Ohno in anything, so for all I know, he is a genius. BUT. BUT. Ummm. Sorry. Joo Ji Hoon was so perfect for the role because he has this incredible iciness and because he looks so contained and aristocratic and inhuman in his perfection, but with that very hidden vulnerability which still makes you care even when you shouldn't and even as you are fraked out by him. I like JJH quite a lot, but I am not delusional. I can think of kdrama actors I think are better, in abstract (Lee Seo Jin, Bae Yong Joon etc etc). But he was perfect in/for this role. Heck, if they had to make a remake, I would think someone like Oguri Shun, not Ohno.

And don't even get me started on Ikuta Toma in Uhm Tae Woong's role. WTF! I know I am in a minority, but I dislike Ikuta Toma, and not just because he is so scrawny his chest is concave (shirtless Toma in Hana Kimi! Do not want! Makes me have famine nightmares!) I think acting-wise he is about as subtle as a brick, and, let's face it, I do think Uhm Tae Woong is an amazing actor, with quite a range, and Ikuta Toma is...well...not.

Now, if they cast KimuTaku and Fujiki Naohito, we are talking. I'd check it out of curiosity, if nothing else. But this? Pass, thank you.

Oh, and also, I had a blast last night watching Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang with [livejournal.com profile] tatterpunk. It's a drama which I adore. Eps 5-7 drag a bit, as I remembered, so we ffed through those. But soon, it will be awesome again!!!!
