Witch Yoo Hee
Apr. 4th, 2007 10:31 pmI rather hate Yoo Hee as a person. She is a total total bitch. And not like Bo-Ra in early eps of Snow Queen where she was bitchy but you could see the fragility and unhappiness and a little girl peeking out.
Nah, she is just a total bitch.
I find her very very amusing: she cracks me up. But what a horrible woman.
I am actually totally rooting for her to get some angst and/or comeuppance. Because right now I want to smack her. Seriously. I want her to have a setback, a major one, so badly.
WYH itself? Still awesome.
And Moo-Ryong? My newest dorama bf. I actually don't want him to end up with Yoo Hee unless she changes somewhat because while the interaction of the two of them together is always amusing, I wouldn't wish her on anyone the way she is now. It's interesting to see how and why and if she'll change.
P.S. When Moo-Ryong says 'I'll pay it [the debt] off with my body.' Hoo-boy. My mind? Straight to the gutter. I was cracking up when she misinterpreted (same way I did) and he was all 'I'd rather go to the police station than make out with you kthnksbye.' LOL.

Date: 2007-04-05 03:13 am (UTC)In real life I'm sure I'd hate her guts, but in a drama, I'm really liking her character because we get to see that she probably wouldn't be so screwed up if it weren't for her childhood (demanding father making her stop liking "feminine" things such as wanting to be a good mother leading her to become really "masculine" and needing Jae Hee's special counseling)
I feel pity for her because she needs to put up such a strong wall or else she'd fall to pieces. She even says herself that she may not look like it, but she really craves love more than anyone.

Date: 2007-04-05 03:46 am (UTC)Yeh WYH is fantastic and she seriously is a bi-atch or has ISSUES. I think both. OMG Moo-Ryong (same name from DGCY?) is delicious sweet. And he's a chef! Yay!

scarily enough
Date: 2007-04-05 03:49 am (UTC)but again, RL glasses. Drama wise, I get why the things have to happen and what serves as character foil. Mostly, I get that she doesn't suffer fools gladly, and her secretary is kind of an idiot - but the other stuff is just not having very good interpersonal skills at all - living her life by a strict code of lists and such
Re: scarily enough
Date: 2007-04-05 04:34 am (UTC)Haven't gotten to that point, but honestly, while generally a bad thing to say, it's totally true in her case. Also, if she can dish it out and try to boss, correct and insult everything, she should be able to take it, too. And hey, if it's after anyone encountering her for more than five minutes, I am totally on the side of the speaker.
She also seems to really not like anyone having any fun. Her secretary does the duties she is supposed to do. If she can't find the housekeeper for Yoo Hee, it's because Yoo Hee is such a bitch no one wants to work for her, not because the secretary is at fault. And there is certainly no need to insult her clothes/perfume/whatever to her face.
The thing is, I have RL glasses on too, and when I start thinking of what it would be like to work in an office with someone like that, or have to interact with her in any capacity, I want to smash her face in. But then I am all 'it's a drama and in a drama she is funny.'
I don't mind a kdrama heroine who is strong-willed (Chun-Hyang in DGCH comes to mind since my brain is in Jae Hee mode), in fact I like it. But there is difference between strong-willed and a total bitch who doesn't really see other people at all. The way she behaved on those dates? My God.
Seriously, in the drama I find her amusing, but in RL I'd want to kill her in two seconds flat. If we saw some inner vulnerability, I might like her better as a (fictional) person (as opposed to liking her as a character. I do that already as she amuses me), but we haven't seen enough of it yet. With Bo Ra in Snow Queen, she started as a bitch, but I never disliked her, because somehow she still came across as lonely, and troubled and just...adorable somehow. Too charming. Yoo Hee I don't get this with. I am amused by her, but I don't like her. The way she is now (after ep 1) I don't want her to end up with anyone yet.
Re: scarily enough
Date: 2007-04-05 08:15 am (UTC)So it won't be about Moo-ryong changing *her*, it's about discovering who she really is behind that awful character. My money's on her father raising her to become like that - she obviously doesn't like him and it's very possible it's because he's the reason for her becoming such a cold bitch.
Of course, it could be me reading too much into this at this point but honestly? I refuse to believe anybody with healthy family background becomes like that. Especially when this is a drama where everything ties together.

Date: 2007-04-05 01:01 pm (UTC)Re: gender reversals. You are totally right. Some of the cold guys do change though in dramas (even Shin melted, rather) and she is so extreme she will probably be one of those, at least somewhat. Yay :)

Date: 2007-04-05 08:08 am (UTC)I like Yoo-hee because I see her incredible bitchiness as hiding unbelievably low self-esteem. She is *awful*, no doubt about it, but it's definitely "curable".
Poor Moo-ryong, though! Before she turns into a human being, he's stuck with a real nasty piece of work. :D

Date: 2007-04-05 01:02 pm (UTC)I know. Come on, you need $40,000 this badly, I know how you could earn it :)
Re: Yoo Hee. She amuses me a lot, but if I think about her as a person, I want to strangle her. But hence the amusement, I guess.
