Hong Gil Dong just gets better and better with each episode. I still haven't watched ep 6 because our planned watching last night got replaced by an even more fun activity of trying to get my fever down, but ep 5 was wonderful.
And yup, definitely a perfect mixture of totally delicious hilarity and just heart-stabbity moments. Definitely a Hong Sisters drama.
Have I mentioned my burning hate for Gil Dong's disgusting brother and father? Fine, his stepmom hates him, whatever. She is not related to him in any way, and he is the product of some other woman who temporarily diverted her husband's attention. Whatever.
But I don't know what's worse, his ^&*(&^% father, deciding that even though he knows it's his legitimate son who perpetrated the robbery, it would be inconvenient and politically inexpedient for this to be known, so he is totally OK with sacrificing Gil Dong in the frame-up.
And the worst part is, Gil Dong, despite it all, still believes in his father somewhere in his heart, still thinks that if he can prove he didn't do it, his father will stand by him.
YEAH.
Or maybe it's his @$&%$$# brother? Who framed him in the first place, but that isn't even the scene I am thinking about, but the scene in the brothel, when GD finds out the truth, and snivelly brother is pleading with him not to kill him (not that GD would) and all 'don't tell daddy' and then calls him 'brother' for the first time in GD's life, and you see GD freeze, because he so clearly wants a family and to be accepted and loved and evil brother just uses this to stab him in the arm and run off screaming for the soldiers to catch him.
STABSTABSTABSTAB I hope you die, both of you.
No wonder GD ends up hiding under the bridge thinking no one trusts him or likes him but that's OK, because he doesn't trust or like anyone either.
(Side note: I do like Creepy Goth Girl. She is definitely odd, but as the whole scene with Gil Dong in the brothel showed, unlike her potential betrothed or potential dad-in-law, she has a heart. Or maybe it was the cute scene with the screen).
But of course, GD isn't correct because there is one person who trusts him and cares for him: Yi Nok. I love the whole scene where they meet, and he asks her whether she is also going to ask him whether he robbed and murdered and she looks at him and states 'but you didn't do it.' The look on his face! He literally moves his mouth a bit before he can even stammer out 'Yes...yes, I didn't.' OMG. *squishes them*
Yi Nok continues to be adorable and awesome btw, I loved the scene where she rescued the Prince and tied his wound even though he threatened her with a sword. And when he got up and left in the morning and she was asleep, he couldn't kill her though prudency would dictate it. And then he looked at the dressing. Awwww. I really like the Prince, now that he is complex and complicated.
But it's not all gloom, there are some amazingly hilarious moments, my favorite being when GD becomes a hero completely by accident, while looking for the real culprit. LOL. And the flasher scene? *dies from laughter*
Some screencaps from ep 5:
Awwww. Woobie. (Everyone believes he is a robber/murderer):

Yi Nok taking care of the stabbed Prince:

I like this shot of Eun Chae (aka Creepy Goth Girl), dressed as a man, in a brothel, looking for Gil Dong.

I thought this scene with Eun Chae and Gil Dong was so adorable.

Telling Evil Brother to tell Dad the truth:

Asking 'do you hate me this much?'

Evil Brother calls him 'brother'

And when he is thus distracted, stabs him:

I like this shot of Eun Chae with her Nanny:

Prince knows he needs to kill Yi Nok but can't:

Flasher. I loled so hard:

Yi Nok attempting to write a letter:

She meets Gil Dong and asks if he is OK, where he is hurt and whether he's eaten:

He is all 'aren't you going to ask me something else, like whether I robbed/murdered?' and she replies, matter-of-factly 'but you didn't do it.'

His reaction:

Cuteness:

Fighting:

Also, there is a scene in ep 7 that is going to kill me.
(translation by hjkomo from soompi):
GD: What's this? Why are you here?
YN: I..just...
GD: I told you not to look for me. You really don't listen.
YN: You should have punched him. Why did you just leave him alone?
GD: Is this a slave's nature/disposition? Having a bad reputation?
YN: Don't talk like that.
GD: Then, am I nothing? Ha.
YN: Gil Dong, don't you laugh. If you laugh, it'll hurt more, so don't laugh, Gil Dong.
She kneels down in front of him.
YN: I'll make it so no one else can see, even me.
She puts her hands up in front of his face and looks down.
YN: So, Gil Dong, cry. It's okay to cry, Gil Dong.
She starts crying...then he starts crying..

A different scene and I think I will die from the cuteness:
