Oh Damo.

Oh Tent Scene.

Yes, I just finished ep 12 (I am flying through this) and am sniffling like mad. I need a break before I completely dissolve.

First off, once again, I love Jang Sung Baek. Not only is he more physically my type than Hwangbo Yoon, but the scene where he finds that village masaccred and thinks the police did it and he tries to control himself and finally screams? OMG. Or when he just misses finding his sister (Chae-Ohk) and just collapses because OMG OMG.

And the scenes when he and Chae-Ohk fight (and at first he refuses even though she cuts his cheek?) Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. And then the scenes when they are in that cave and he is in horrible shape because he tried to rescue her (even though they were in the middle of fighting to the death!) and they just talk and hold each other close in the dark and he sucks the poison from her wound even though it will get him dead and then Hwangbo Yoon finds the place and even though it means he'll be dragged out and killed, he starts yelling she is there and she (OMG OMG) puts her hand over his mouth so he won't be found even though it means she'll die.

And they exchange ILYs and it's awesome.

And of course, they are siblings but they don't know it, which is why they are so drawn to each other, but the thing I really love is that I really get that she is displacing. Because she loves Hwangbo Yoon and she can never ever have him: she loves HY too much to hinder him or to drag him down, especially once she finds out she cannot have children (even the Lady notices it), but her damaged self is good enough for others. She so displaces. She sees the same qualities in Sung Baek that she loves so in Hwangbo Yoon: integrity, warmth, kindness, steel will, and yes, angst, and he is someone she can 'allow' herself.

And Hwangbo Yoon? There are no words for his awesomeness. OMG, the scene when even the Royal Physician says she is dying and he gives up his post and puts her on his horse and rides off like mad with her to the mountains to his monk teacher (there is a scene where he tries to feed her water and he holds her so tenderly, kills me). And then she is lying there comatose at the monk's and omg omg he is crying saying she cannot die before he can tell her what's in his heart and how he cannot breathe unless she is around.

And he just sits and sits by her and the monk says the only way (last ditch attempt) is to give her a death blow and it will bring her out if anything will (it's wuxia, go with it) and if not, she'd rather be dead than a vegetable and he says HY has to deliver it. OMG OMG. And I love the scene of HY brushing CO's hair so tenderly (she is unconscious) and she does recover from it and it's awesome but she is muttering Sung Baek's name in her delirium and he cannot bear it (I love the scene of him practicing swordsmanship in the rain) saying it's OK if it's not him, but not Sung Baek.

Let's see, other wonderful scenes? Sung Baek and HY finally confronting each other, two awesome men on opposite sides of the law, fighting to the death (until it gets interrupted). I loved that scene.

Or the scene where HY comes to try to get CO's true feelings out of her and she won't let herself admit it and he tells her he is getting married to the Lady. Wow. It was an amazing amazing scene.

And then there is the TENT SCENE. OMG OMG. When he tells her he loves her and he doesn't care about the childlessness and her lower that she brings up and he says he will leave his job, be a commoner, marry her. He doesn't care about kids because he just wants her. OMG OMG. She says 'I am lowly' and he says 'Then I'll humble myself.'

And she is fighting last-ditch effort against it because she cannot allow himself to harm himself and she says her heart is SB's (significantly, it's not the first thing she brought up as she would have if it was on top of her mind and her true reason) and OMG OMG the OTP has so much heartbreak.

This is my most beloved heart-breaking scene of all times. :D Which one of the guys do you think she loves?

I just finished and I want to hide in a corner and cry.

I think she loves them both actually. She loves HY more than anything but she won't allow herself to love him and she transfers this plus the sibling connection she feels to SB but I don't think she romantically loves SB.

** Hugs ** But isn't it great??

One of the things I really loved about Damo, that different people have different views on the situation, and that the drama was made to be like this.
I thought that the transfer of love to SB was too successful and that she stopped loving HY in THAT sense. My biggest argument for this is that she didn't say that she loves him when HY was dying. She was behaving as if he was her brother, not her lover at this point-of-truth moment.

But I can really see other explanations too.

Yes, I loved how complicated it was. Because I am with [livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore on whom she loved, but I can totally see why you think it's Sung Baek (and I love how it's the complexity of the emotions that draws you in).

Re: death moment. I think she was too out of it to talk about anything very coherently. And she did want to go away with him (to the mountain). I also didn't get the sense when she found out about SB being her brother that she was 'oh noez, my love was forbidden' but 'oh, this is what he feelings mean' But considering everything else that was going on, I can just as easily be projecting my preferences.

I think what sealed it for me is actually the views of the Lady on the whole matter. She was an observer after all.

I don't think she could ever let go enough to be with HY though...it was too huge. But whatever the nature of her respective feelings, brotherly or not, I do think her feeling for HY trumped everything else for her.

Hey. Not related to Damo, but: I'll be in DC tomorrow, and I was wondering if you were free for lunch/dinner?

Last time I checked, it was on youtube (or check out crunchyroll). I am watching it on DVDs, but I am pretty sure youtube had it! It's really worth it.

i confess to being a comfort queen and hate watching things on YouTube. i've been spoiled by burning things to disc and watching from the excessively comfy chair in front of large tv screen. much easier on the eyes and back.

i haven't even looked into picking up dvds anywhere (eBay?) simply because lord, there would go my checkbook!

This is THE ultimate scene, like, ever. One of my favourite drama scenes, period. So frickin' tender and the love is just sooo palpable, and they have such amazing, amazing chemistry together. I wanted to die from the glorious angst.

I know! It was so gorgeous. I love the tent scene even more though, when he tells her he will humble himself. OMG OMG OMG. They are such an otp.
