Yes, still pathetically fannish...
Mar. 1st, 2007 02:37 pmI am on volume six of Fruits Basket and I just found out Kyo's deal.
Oh HELL.
HELL.
(Note to self: when you are crying at a lunch place in public, people give you weird looks, so from now on, no manga reading at sandwich place.)
P.S., Yes, I will talk about something other than FB soon. But not before I have a giant FB post and a Beautiful Life post.
But for now I am a bit to incoherent for that.
I mean,
KYO.

Yay! I think somewhere between vo 3 and this I became a massive Kyo/Tohru shipper. Maybe I always choose the most screwed up character to ship with the heroine? :D I mean, Yuki's stuff is dreadful too but I think Kyo wins the awfulness sweepstakes.
And massive Akito-hate.
You mean more than now? The whole bit where Akito comes to school and is all ‘you didn‘t come to new year’s banquet, should I lock you up in your special room like I used to?’ to Yuki. HATE. Hello, this is child abuse and last I checked, illegal. I am not exactly sure what went on but Akito is creepily posessive of Yuki. Creeplily. Like after meeting Tohru he is all ‘heh, she is ugly, yay, no threat. And Yuki is still afraid of me, so we are still close’ BWAH? Hate. When you traumatize someone, sure they’ll remember you. (But I love how Tohru, even though she is wondering why Akito looked like he hated her, and with no idea what on earth went between Yuki and Akito, knows that Yuki is probably all messed up by it and drags him to play badminton). And the bit where apparently he traumatized Yuki so much the guy just shut down and wouldn't speak and went mute? HELLOOOOO huge levels of trauma. The whole thing about him saying how he hated himself?
Oh God, I hate Akito.

Date: 2007-03-01 08:13 pm (UTC)But, see what I mean about indications that Akito forces things on his cousins? Though, I think it's more that he makes them feel they SHOULD than anything happens. With an exception. But it's most obvious with Yuki. The event I center Akito-hate around is during a school break where he claws Tohru's face and verbally and emotionally abuses her(which, being Tohru she bounces back from in about 5 seconds, but that's not the point) Yeah, there are other things he does to his cousins that are even worse, but a large part of that is "we're all cursed but I'm the only one sick and dying from it." Which doesn't make it remotely ok or justifiable, but I can somewhat see it. But Tohru? Whole other thing all together.
Also, I bring you my Yuki/Ayame icon...around vol 12-13(parent/teacher conderences) Ayame wins the "Best. Big. Brother. Ever." award...I love their interactions, and no matter how weird he is, Ayame really does do his best to be a devoted big brother and make up for ignoring him for a long time.

Date: 2007-03-01 08:22 pm (UTC)Yeah, after the Yuki stuff, I can see where you are coming from with that vibe. I was definitely feeling it. Ugh.
the resloution of the seal business is shippy overload, no matter how much you already ship them.
Oh yes. YES. I love the bit at the end where he voluntarily, himself, reaches out to hug her and hold her even though of course he is going to turn into a cat. And then she ends up carrying him home. *dies* (OK, manga? Officially crack. Taken on its own that sentence reads insane). And the whole bit with him thinking that he lost her anyway so he should just push her away in the worst possible fashion so it couldn't hurt any worse when she does turn away from him. That whole scene by the lake? OMG. So amazing. And I do love that it's hard even for Tohru to sort of move past the curse at first (because it is so horrible, not just the weirdness of turning into a cute fluffy animal), but of course she does because she cares for who he is and not what he is and I love how she says she wants to be together and means it. (I want an icon of the scene where he is hugging her).
And his mother killed herself! Because she couldn't bear to deal with his curse. No wonder he displaces on Yuki. It's like a safety valve (the whole flashback bit with him talking to his adoptive father and saying he'll kill Yuki and then kill himself, yikes). EEEEEEK.

Hmm...the person who made my FB icons may have had some...I'll have to hunt her post down.

Date: 2007-03-01 08:01 pm (UTC)It starts off kind of cute and silly and then you realize just how amazingly screwed up all the Sohmas are
It's fluffy and funny and then it just hits you with the angst and oh my.
can't even think of how to say this, but judging from your post, I think you get the idea.
I can't think of how to say it either. I just get flaily and incoherent.

Date: 2007-03-01 09:01 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure it's part of the curse. Just like the cat hatred is part of the curse. There's so much more to the curse than what you get at the beginning. So much more than the Sohma's themselves even know about.
