I just went reading wikipedia for some Fruits Basket spoilers and read one about the connection between Kyo and Kyoko, Tohru's Mom.

P.S. You know who I am in love with now? Hatori. GUUUUH. Talk about angst. The fact that he looks a bit like Aoshi (see icon), my favorite secondary Rurouni Kenshin character (and my favorite after Kenshin himself) doesn't hurt.

Be careful! There are some massive spoilers out there way bigger than Kyo & Tohru's mom. I've read the scans so we're up in the 20+ volume by now. I don't know how much you care about spoilers though (you seem to have a bit of a fetish for spoilers!). The things I could tell you..... ;) As for Akito - just you wait & see. As awful as he is, think of what it must take to fill a person with so much hate. My favorite character is Shigure - he's such a fruitcake! He always makes me laugh.

I don't mind spoilers too much. Actually, I love them. I don't want to read the actual script or anything but usually I am all about spoilering myself (there have been a few cases where it's not like that, but this isn't it).

Seriously speaking though, even if he was raped as a child by a gang of aliens, I'd still not feel sorry for him. It's like the discussion of Nakago I had below with meganbmoore. No matter the awfulness, once you hurt other people badly, you have no excuse. The only manga/anime 'bad guy' I ever liked is Kougaiji in Saiyuki, but he is not portrayed as a bad person, just working for the 'side of evil' though he personally does nothing bad.

I love Shigure. So off-kilter awesome.

imo, akito is the most unabashedly hatefilled anime/manga character out there...even knowing his story, i can't feel any sympathy. Granted, i don't feel sympathy for Nakago, either, but at least with him I can see WHY he wentthat path, it was how he survived(and he makes me think of an evil shuri...a bit...just a bit...he crosses lines shuri would kill for crossing)

With akito, it's more like he chooses to hate just to be spiteful. it's not revenge or anything like that, it's just spiteful hatred.

similarities. Though, now that I'm not doing paperwork and have thought about it, Ageha might be a better Nakago comparison. But a combo of messed up Limdo and not-evil Nakago might be more accurate. He's hard and ruthless, but when he's allowed to just be the guy he could have been without his screwed up life(read, with Sarasa and Shidou and to a limited extent Yuna and Nakijin) he's a friendly, open prankster with a serious flirtatious side(which is funny, cuz after he meets Sarasa, he can't help still flirting all the time, but then he only does it with the ones who are more likely to kick him in the face than take him up on it...like Yuna) and a lot of protectiveness.

On the day of Kyoko's accident, Kyo (whom she had met years ago) was standing nearby and spotted the car. He was about to pull her away, but that would involve embracing her, which would turn him into a cat in front of many people. So he did nothing, and Kyoko was hit. Seeing her lying on the ground covered in blood, Kyo swears he hears her say "I won't forgive you." He then ran to Kazuma Sohma and trained in the mountains.

As of chapter 135 we now know Kyoko truly said this but not with the intention Kyo thought she had. Before she died Kyoko's thoughts were that of Tohru and seeing Kyo she wanted to say "If you don't protect the child [Tohru] I won't forgive you." but in her weak state wasn't able to say it all.

basically, the cat has to live his entire life in seclusion, but Akito told Kyo that if he could beat Yuki(an impossibility because of the curse) by graduation, he wouldn't have to. but the curse makes it literally impossible(course, if Yuki knew, he'd throw the fight, but then Akito would say it didn't count) it's also a large part of why Kyo is constantly attacking Yuki at first.

Okay, I seriously don't understand this At. All. but... is this a manga or a video? Because if it is a manga, you would probably be the right person to ask about Cantarella, which I understand is a manga about Cesare Borgia, and whether or not (given what you've seen of my LJ) it's likely to make me crazy. Because I think it looks kind of interesting (annoyingly fey and androgynous art aside).

It's a manga. (It was also turned into an anime for volumes 1-7). I've heard about Cantarella. I haven't read it myself but aliterati loves it, so I will ask her about it. All I know of it right now is that says it's very slashy :D

Yaoi is guy/guy stuff in manga and anime...sometimes explicit, sometimes canon, often though(in stuff actually out in the US) it's 2 straight guys they think should be gay. In the case of cantarella, my gut says "canon, possibly explicit"

I love Fruits Basket too. But I think you should read all the manga before making a judgment about Akito. I also used to hate her before but after something -if I told you I'll spoil you- you start to understand her and even love her. I tought it was impossible but yeah... She's just as complicated as the other characters of this manga and that's the thing that makes me love it.
