dangermousie: (The Outsiders)
[personal profile] dangermousie
I have just finished episode 3 of The Outsiders. I haven't been that effortlessly drawn by a drama since Snow Queen.

And I learned how to screencap so here is my first screencap. Ah Hao apologizing to Yu Yen for her being hurt:

(Isn't he the most gorgeous thing ever?)

This drama is so perfect, even in little gestures, like the nervous way Ah Hao tries to pull his slightly open shirt together on seeing Yu Yen's father.

Episode 3 cements both the perfection and the sheer impossibility of the OTP. They are from such vastly different worlds. Ah Hao knows it, even as he tries to deny it and almost gets into a fight about it with his level-headed friend (he denies the relationship is anything important but the denials ring hollow even to him). And when he finally manages to do 'the right thing' and push her away (because she got her hand hurt by some girl who had a thing for him, and he feels guilty), he is miserable and he can't stick to it and he just gives in and they are back to their 'friendship' as if they never fought, when she comes back to comfort him after his grandmother died (And I love how she knows where to find him and he breaks down in front of her).

They are so impossibly young and hopeful and I just want to protect them from the world. The thing is, I don't blame her parents in the least for freaking out and forbidding them to be together. And her father does get Ah Hao to give up (as Ah Hao knew he had to) and their last scene in the ep is so sad, when she asks him if her father said anything wrong to him and she will apologize but he says it's not it (and he has to steel himself, visibly), he just doesn't want to spend time with an upperclass girl and walks away.

I bring you a number of unspoilery screencaps from ep 3

The scene that made me decide to learn screencapping. Ah Hao falling on his knees, breaking down about his grandmother, and Yu Yen comforting him:

Yu Yen turns back to look at Ah Hao one last time for the night after he drops her off at home after one of their evenings:

Ah Hao looking (as always) incredible. Did I mention that Dylan Kuo is over 6 feet tall and older than me. YESSSS):

Yu Yen is threatened by a 'tough girl' who's crushing on Ah Hao:

The level headed best friend of Ah Hao (Barbie Xsu's ex btw. She's traded up with Vic but he is still hot):

Ah Hao is cracking up at something his other best friend (the goofball) said:

Ah Hao's two best friends in their school uniforms:

May I die a little over that grin?

In the immediate aftermath of his Grandmother's death:

And weeping:

At the take-off for airplanes field, where Yu Yen finds him, after his Grandmother's death, talking to Yu Yen:

Breaking down:

But he's got tender sympathy at least:
