Because Tatta Hitotsu No Koi has finished and I spoiled myself (I was literally clicking ‘refresh’ on several pages that would have mention of the ending on a loop of ‘refresh’ like a psycho) and know how it ends and can binge, I’ve been continuing in my watch (and also because
winterspel and
kitsune714 write the best meta). Mind you, I am still on episode 5.
First off, I have to say, this show has really made me fall for Kame. Granted, I still want to force-feed him several large fatty dinners in a row, but OMG. Not only is he pretty, but he can act amazingly well. And is very expressive and subtle. Yay. Does he have any more dramas coming up? And I am definitely watching Sapuri just for him (and also because I saw posters for it when I was in Tokyo, so this will be cool). And I really must get back to Nobuta Wo Produce when I am less tired and can follow things.
I have to say, I am so glad I know the ending (and may I say, I am still pleasantly shocked by it. I was so sure it was going to end up in Nao dying/Hiroto killing himself). Because not only does Hiroto deserve happiness (he is probably the nicest, most decent drama hero ever) but because even knowing about the HEA, some of this is so hard to watch: like the anxiety Hiroto has about meeting her father, how he is so nervous, and picks his clothes with such care, and he is a bit hopeful in addition to his nerves, and you just know it’s all going to go to hell. I love that he admits to Nao earlier that he is nervous but he wants to do it. Oh, you poor woobies.
I especially love the earlier scene at Hiroto’s former school though. I find it quite emblematic that Yuko, Kou and Ayuta are all being noisy and playing basketball, while Hiroto is lying by himself at the baseball pitch. I love that he opens up to Nao, both about his aspirations, and he says he wanted to go to college ‘a little’ and I just hurt for him, more so for that sad, self-effacing little quantifier. And he tells her about his father and you know what? I just realized something. The end is happy, yes. He ends up with Nao blah blah. But it doesn’t really restore to him everything he’s lost, everything he should have had: he still missed going to college and thus getting a better job. He missed playing baseball. Etc etc etc. It’s realistic, the fact that not everything gets fixed, or can get fixed. But it’s quite quite sad.
And I love that Nao is so interested in everything about him: she is in the first flush of love where everything, including the kind of soup the guy likes, is a discovery. And she is drinking it in, and not being noisy or too quiet, but just perfect. And when Hiroto says that if she was in his school she’d never pay attention to him, in response to her wistful wish of knowing him back then (stop it with the sense of unworthiness Hiroto. You are totally worthy) and she is so vehement about it being untrue. And OMG, he leans up and kisses her and you hear the voiceover that at that moment he is happy. I love that. The straightforwardness of that sentiment is just very Hiroto.
One last quick thing. I love that Hiroto says he does wish he knew her earlier so he could have been there for her when she was sick.
Seriously, is there a dorama hero more awesome than Hiroto?
Not for a while.
In other drama news, I’ve been continuing with my watch of Magicians of Love. I am about three and a half eps in, and it continues to be mushy and awesome. And Yasu/Xiao Bei are totally OTP and the best thing about it they don’t realize it yet.
Heeee. This is crack. Really. I am still drooling/sighing/giggling/everything about the water maze scene. Yasu’s stunned look that she instinctively figured out the lovers’ maze (it’s a maze where if a couple walks towards each other from opposite directions and meet they are destined) without thinking, because she wanted to warn him about being hit with a soccer ball and his flashing back to his ex who used this maze as an excuse to dump him.
The whole ‘I am going to jump into his arms because I am scared of imaginary creatures in the attic’ scene. OMG. Adorable.
The to-die for bit where he lost the bet so has to spend the night in her house, in the attic and he is rather bored so he takes a big bottle of wine with him (while she is terrified of the attic because of imaginary creatures). And she comes up to check on him and his white shirt is unbuttoned (YUM) and he is all asleep and she puts a blanket over him but as she starts out to leave, he mumbles for her not to go and grabs her arm.
EEEEE!
And then she is locked up in the attic with him by the weird apprentice guy who thinks is Yasu in there by himself and wants to teach him a lesson.
And she starts imagining those creatures again (isn’t she too old to be afraid of the dark) and he tells her to see only him or similar. Eeeeee. And there is hugging and protectiveness and falling asleep together on his very naked chest.
OMG
OMG
OMG
And then he wakes up, not remembering anything except for getting drunk and sees her asleep on him (LOL!) and he is all ‘must get out of here or her father will see and make me marry her and I will have to take over their barber shop’ and he manages to shimmy down the window. ROFL. ‘Lucky I can run fast.’ ROFL.
OK, that’s it. I am officially a Yasu fangirl.
And then there is the bit with Xiao Bei and Richie where he wants her to be their stylist but she thinks he is asking her to be gf and she is totally pleased and heeeee.
And the preview indicated she will be dating Richie but falling for Yasu which means ANGST. And DRAMATICS. And there was fighting and Yasu saving her from a car. OMG. Awesomeness.
Fernando, otoh? Ugh. Total louse with the womanizing. Are we supposed to like him?
I have also been reading, off-and-on, manga Kare First Love. It’s a very shoujo ten volume manga. It’s actually a bit low key despite all the potential melodrama. The geeky unattractive girl who is actually pretty when remade, evil ‘best friend’ and playboy gorgeous guy who is actually a photographer with angsty family? More cliché than cliché, not too much drama, and the proposal at the end is sort of tooth-ache inducing, but I still couldn’t help mainlining it like heroin. Maybe because I am a sucker for fluffy shoujo, or maybe because it’s so darn cute and sweet and pretty.
