Angsty Joe Cheng. In suits. Holding a baby. With a lot of kissing (of the baby's mother, not the baby, thankfully).

This MV for the twdrama Magic Ring is doing things to my hormones.

I am only about four eps in and sort of got sidetracked because the subs are poor and because I totally hate the heroine (seriously! Eeeek!) But this reminds me I really really should continue soon. I mean, the whole 'I am someone who his father never loved. And now I am in love with the girl who I think is the pregnant fiance of my dead idolized brother. Only she isn't' is so full of angst potential.

OK, Magic Ring might have lousy subs but they are understandable. Nine Balls has no subs at all. How am I to satisfy my Joe Cheng craving? (An aside: why are there all those unsubbed Joe Cheng and Mike He dramas? They are hot, they are popular, so whyyyyy?)

Plus, Nine Balls looks interesting, and not just because he is so smoking. (Btw, I just thought about something really random. If they ever did a twdrama version of Kurosagi, he is so someone I'd pick for Yamapi's role. He can do withdrawn very well. And angsty too. And because I am a pathetic fandom girl, Ariel Lin can be Tsurara.)

P.S. He plays the 'other guy' in Nine Balls. You have to be kidding me. It's from the same barrel of ideas which made Kang Dong-Won to have unrequieted love in Temptation of Wolves. Only here, they don't even have an excuse of him being her half-sibling. Yeah, I'll buy that. Just like I'll buy that Juhi prefers what's his name over Shahrukh Khan in Ram Jaane or that Clark is mentally damaged enough to prefer Lana over Lex. Yeah.

Heeee. I can't help it. ISWAK owns a small piece of my soul. I know they are planning to start filming ISWAK2 in March and I am crossing my fingers and toes they actually do.

Ariel is probably my favorite twdrama actress. Her or Barbie. Which makes her or Barbie my fave drama actress period.

Now I'm imagining scenes of Kurosagi with Joe and Ariel instead... and cracking up at the thought of Joe in some of the disguises Yamapi wears... especially the one with the fortune teller.

I can't wait for ISWAK 2, either, so exciting! Ariel is definitely my favourite twdrama actress. I think she might be my favourite drama actress period as well. Even my parents are amazed at how cute she is (they're watching Tian Wai Fei Xian). Who doesn't love Ariel?

Heh. I don't think they'd have a problem IDing him. All they would have to do is go 'oooh, he's two heads taller than everyone else. Must be Kurosaki.' LOL.

But that does work into my huge thing for tall guys tiny girls. The whole bits with him and Ariel in ISWAK where she is sort of like a doll compared to him *sigh*

I can't wait for ISWAK2. I love Ariel. Usually I am all about actors and she is one of the very few actresses I'd watch a drama for.

I was rewatching some bits from last ep of ISWAK (the bit in the hallway with the knees? Most awesome thing ever) and...mushhhhhhh.

Wow, the heroine comes off as annoying even in the MV. Just out of curiosity, why do you dislike the character? I thought she looked pained when he kissed her and seeing as how this is Joe Cheng and not some, I dunno, unattractive drama hero (do such exist?), that's just wrong, no matter how much angst her character is feeling.

Re: pained expression. ROFL. I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I assume it's because she is feeling guilty, as WELL SHE SHOULD.

(The only people on my flist who I know have seen this are me and scottishlass and we both find the heroine annoying).

She is this poor girl from awful family who gets impregnated and dumped by her scummy bf.

Basically, she 'infiltrates' Joe's family because they think she is the pregnant fiance of the beloved older son who just died in a train wreck (it makes sense why they think that but it would take too long to explain). In her excuse, she is unconscious at the time they move her and then she can't remember anything. But she does remember everything very soon after! And she still decides to stick because living in a lux house would be the best for her unborn baby!

OK. This is a huge 'you lose me' point number 1. I mean, Yu Rin pulled off a number of scams but they never really hurt people/took advantage. Joe Cheng's character and his father are both grieving horribly and it's just really wrong to sort of come in there and be 'yeah, yeah, I am fiancee.'

But fine, I'd buy the desperation, but her attitude drives me up the wall. She never really feels guilty or empahetic for the pain the household is going through. She is all 'why do you suspect me? Why do you yell at me?' blah blah. I'd cut the boy some slack, Missy, seeing as the one member of his family that cared for him just got offed.

As I put in a reply to scottishlass, The fact that she stays on even after she remembers who she is, and is utilizing the riches to the max, just puts me off her, espeically when she has the nerve to get offended when JC's character 'accuses' (except he is right) of her just staying for the money.

And both father and son are totally grieving but she is all oblivious and gets annoyed every time JC snaps at her for not remembering and in ep 2 or 3 she throws in his face that she is carrying his brother's child so he can't hit her except...she isn't! And she seems to have no pause about statements like that. (I think having a better actress would have helped).

And the whole thing is not helped by the fact that JC's character is actually a pretty good guy with not that many issues other than the understandable grief for his brother's death. And he sort of defends her to others, too. Except she is totallly undeserving.

And I do think there will be huge future angst for the guy because he falls for his almost sister in law and because brother left years ago because his arranged marriage fell through because the girl preferred Joe (who wouldn't) so oooooh, guilt. But it would all be avoided if the silly freak would tell him who she is!

OK, this is beginning to remind me why I stopped watching this. Must...concentrate...just...on Joe Cheng's hotness...in suits.

That's the thing. A good drama and a 'good looking' drama don't always go together. I adore dramas like Hanadan but the fashion horrifies me. And I've never seen Joe Cheng look better than in MR: great hair, awesome clothes (suits or jeans and normal shirts), but the drama itself isn't the best. Of course, when the two align (like Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake where Takeshi Kaneshiro spends the whole time in black leather pants) then I am a happy girl.

MR doesn't have a bad premise. But the execusion is flawed, largely because that girl (whom I significantly never seen in anything else since) isn't a good enough actress to pull off as being sympathetic, stuck in a no-win situation (and the script doesn't write her as OVERTLY emo, so no acting would be required on her part).

I kinda get sidetracked whenever he's on screen though...
