It seems I have to give up on contractions in sentences as I have yet to figure out where that particular keyboard key is...

First off, of food matters. I have entered Pocky heaven. Almond crush pocky is beat only by a pocky with an odd green covering of whose flavor I have no idea. My temporary residence in Japan alone is enough to revitalize the Pocky industry, if boxes I am hoarding are any indication.

Also, rice milk ice-cream is the best tasting thing there is. And our ryokan is feeding us kaiseki cousine, which is just amazing.

In other news, we are in Kyoto which is wonderful and gorgeous and of which I will write more when I am not hindered by a scarily complicated keyboard. The suits are a bit less sharp, the hair a bit less stylish (though there is still an inordiate amount of hair salons here) but you can walk up narrow streets with secretive wooden houses and bump into a group of geishas walking somewhere in their colorful attire, or maybe a monk hurrying somewhere.

Kyoto is wonderful. We got lost a bit trying to find our ryokan (traditional inn) because we did not have an exact address but wandering the area, even with a bag, was worth it...all the houses with signs only in Japanese, narrow, extremely clean streets, a few schoolchildren passing by, a few geishas, a few tourists with cameras, but the quietest and serene feel you can imagine. And sometimes no one on the streets at all...

Two images I am currently in love with: this rainy morning, seeing a geisha walking alone on a deserted street, in crimson kimono and an identical to a shade paper umbrella. And a few steps after she entered a building, passing one in maroon kimono and with maroon umbrella. And yesterday, seeing a very stylish young man at a shrine, buying a fortune and doing the proper religious thing. And then walking off with his equally stylish girlfriend and ruffling her hair, ready for a night on the town...

Just as the image I will always have of Tokyo is during evening rush hour at Shinjuku station, looking at a press of people and seeing a young man in a very sharp suit, with suit jacket over his arm, starched white shirt, pants with creases so sharp they could cut and...amazingly elaborate punk-style dorama hair.

P.S. Our ryokan is really really wonderful and sleeping on a mat is very fun and so is sitting Japanese style. We also have a Japanese style bath which has a bucket and a scrub stool. With our limited Japanese and their limited English, we still manage to get around OK and my socks have never had so much work-out. LOVE!

P.P.S. We were in an internet place in Tokyo and I was waiting for Mr. Mousie to finish up and browsing through manga section (last vol of Kenshin, eeee!) I ended up in a section that had some handwritten sticky notes on it but they were in Japanese so I did not pay attention to them. And then I browsed a random volume...I did not even know you could tie someone up like that! Plus, it must have taken hours and seems like an inordinate amount of effort for five minutes of sex ;P That manga does not seem to get exported ;P
