FUMOFFU goodness
Apr. 8th, 2006 11:26 pmFinished FUMOFFU (and now am left biting fingers to get my hands on The Second Raid, which is still in the mail). This is the funniest thing, no question, I have EVER seen. The episode at the Hot Springs made me revert to my five-year old self. And Sousuke as Bonta-kun? Teaching the Yakuza? I couldn't breathe.
But on a more serious note, the thing that really got me was (as always) the relationship betweem Chidori and Sousuke. My favorite was probably the ep where the members of the music club told Sousuke that if he got even one woman to meet him, they'd buy him lunch for two weeks and if he lost, he'd have to swim in the pond naked, and he accepted (of course the poor boy didn't know what flirting meant and was planning to literally trap women. And he was so nice and helpful to this one elderly lady. When she tells him her grandson is his age, he gets wistful and I remember he has no family). And at the end, Chidori showed up, dressed up in her mother's kimono and pretended to be someone else (a married woman, no less), just as Sousuke was unbuttoning his shirt to go for that swim, and led him away (and he was blusing and confused) and he didn't recognize her. And then she told him who he was and then told him, 'you forgot to say one thing' and he went 'thank you' and she said 'no' and he tried a number of things, and she said 'not that' to all of them, and then he looked away and said 'you look...beautiful' and she beamed (she is SO far gone, that girl) and told him 'this is the first time you've told me that.' The cuteness of this OTP is breaking the cute-o-meter.
Also, I've decided I loathe Tessa. She plays head-games and thus is completely unsuited to Sousuke who is completely lost at this (Chidori is ideally suited to him because she is very stright-forward. Whatever she thinks, she says. You always know where you stand with her, and there is no guile). When Tessa decides to spend her vacation at Sousuke's house and drive a spoke between the OTP? Ugh. I think mentally she is still a little girl: she has yet to realize other people really exist. She only thinks Sousuke would make a nice boyfriend, not what his feelings are on the subject. And she doesn't think that because she is his superior officer, this puts him in a horrible situation because when she gives an order, he has to follow it. She has always been in command and not come through the ranks, so she's never had to take orders. And if she had to, she'd know what it means to have to follow them. Just as she doesn't realize the amount of trouble her staying would cost Sousuke, in having to guard her, as an important superior officer AND a Whispered. And once again, here is where he lack of coming up the ranks counts. If she ever had to guard someone, she'd know what effort it is to be guarded. She just doesn't think. Just because she could hang out with the guy on a heavy weapons submarine, doesn't mean he could just relax with her in the open.
And then there is the fact that Sousuke has no choice, and she knows he doesn't. He can't refuse her staying in his house, because she is his commanding officer. She is totally abusing her power. AND she is coming between him and Chidori. Now, if Sousuke came to her and told her he liked her and wanted to date her/sex her/lick her ear, I would have no problem with her jumping his bones. She is not Chidori's best friend after all. But coming on to someone who has shown no interest in her, and who is clearly sweet on someone else, who is reciprocally sweet on him, is just low. And when she crawls into his bed? A bed of someone who is not only taken but has shown no interest whatsoever? Ugh. the term for that is a bitch. Of course, what she doesn't realize, the head-gaming is absolutely the wrong way to the boy's heart. He is having nightmares of her, which is not very effective for her purposes, I'd imagine. In many ways, except for their different upbringing, Chidori and Sousuke aren't that different, in their pragmatic basic unflappability and subtle as a plank approach to the world. But he and Tessa have nothing in common. And her behavior really annoyed the heck out of me.
