Actually, it's because he was a huge fan of Wollywood, the Wookie film-genre. Actually, Amitabh Bachchan made several films in Wollywood before getting roles in Hindi cinema - in the 70s everyone had a lot more hair.

And you're right, the HP fandom is screaming for a write-up like this, too. Because a lot that fanfic is even worse . If that's possible. Ick.
