Wow, way to find things hilarious
Mar. 3rd, 2006 06:55 pmI was browsing the "Parents Guide to Anime" (no idea why as I have no children of any variety) and I discovered, to my immense astonishment that one of their reviewers refers to Trigun (otherwise known, in
dangermousie's opinion, as "The best show except for Farscape ever made in any genre") as (and I quote):
"An excellent comedy series"
WTF????? *falls over dead*
Well, I suppose it's a pure giggle-fest the same way Farscape is a breezy romantic comedy.
In all fairness, this person probably only saw the first couple of episodes (in an interesting parallel with Farscape, Trigun starts out light and funny and ends up being one of the most heart-wrenching things I've ever seen). But that is why you should watch the whole thing before recommending it. Because later on we have such delightful things as deaths of main character(s), mental breakdowns, messy and callous killings, physical and emotional torture, and (in a particularly funny scene), the main character being so messed-up and destroyed by what he's been forced to do that he just keeps on screaming in agony, in a scene that made me want to watch through my fingers.
Way to give people recs. If I had a small child, no way would I get them anywhere near Trigun. Ever. And not just because it's an adult anime anyway. People who follow this advice for their little darlin' are in for a treat.
