BSG Musings: Kara/Lee centric
Feb. 1st, 2006 11:31 amI had a dream tonight in which I was watching a Battlestar episode where Kara and Lee got together and had hot, dysfunctional sex. Unfortunately, it was TV-style sex as it "cut out" during the crucial moments. I guess my subconsious is not only a shipper, but a modest one at that.
Of course, seeing that the other part of the dream involved Adama telling Lee to "go for it" because Zack isn't in the way any more, and Lee being unbelievably awkward and clumsy about starting stuff and Kara breaking up the mood by moaning "Anders," it's also clear that my imagination has read too many fanfics, not all of them good. Hmmm.
I am very interested actually, in Kara and Lee's hopefully coming up, real show dysfunctional sex scene. Because it's clear they've been heading in the direction of sex for a long long time: it's impossible to have all that combustible chemistry, be two attractive people who have some mixed-up attraction between them (Kara's moaning Lee's name while in bed with Baltar, Lee's completely spontaneous kiss of Kara when she comes back) and not at least have something happen.
It's equally clear that anything between them would be severely frakked up and not because Kara has Twu Wuv feelings for Anders or Lee is pining for the Dark Goddess that is Dee or what not. Even if Dee and Anders never entered the picture, any hook up of theirs would be doomed at this point in time. Aside from the Zack issue (hello, Lee's brother/Kara's fiance about whom Kara still feels guilt) which by itself would be enough to scuttle or complicate things, we have Kara's perpetual self-destruct mode and feelings of unworthiness, we now have Lee who is just as much in self-destruct mode (even if in a different fashion) and who is losing his ideals and his sanity and his will to live in one fell swoop. These people are not healthy enough to have a relationship with their right hand, let alone each other.
I think in a way, for now, Anders and Dee are "safer" choices for both of them. I can buy Kara's feelings for Anders. Not only do you sometimes click with someone, he is uncomplicated, any potential relationship with him is uncomplicated (well, there is the whole "he is stuck on a radiation infected planet controlled by Cylons" part but I am talking about the emotional component :P) He is not mixed up with her closer than family and with many of her issues the way Lee is. He hasn't seen her at her worst, he doesn't know her history and her bad moments and her private issues or shames. She can start fresh and new, put on a brand new, just created Starbuck just for him. There is no past, no shared history, no knowing her too well for her peace of mind. And he is a heck less complicated a person than Lee. Something like this can be incredibly liberating. Not to mention healthier. I wonder though if part of Anders' appeal to Kara is that he is safely out of the picture and she doesn't have to worry about disappointing him or being disappointed. He is "safe" in that way (also, I think Helo is the worst person on asking advice about whether to forget someone or keep loving, and on whether the obstacles are insurmountable, because one of the things I love most about Helo is his ability to keep on loving and fighting the world no matter the obstacles but that bar is set waaaaay higher than normal in Helo so he is not a good advisor for anyone else).
And the same goes for Dee as a SO for Lee. She is much less complicated, not tied up with family and history, and she has less issues. Neither Lee nor Kara are picking a partner for life after all, and in short term, a stranger with whom you can be someone else might be restful.
So yeah, I am still into Lee and Kara. Any sex they will have? Hot? Incredibly. Dysfunctional? Most likely. Leading to a happy outcome? Not a chance. Just as little chance as that they will be able to get each other out of each other's system for good that way. And I am happy, as I like dysfunctional and complex and full of potential (see Crichton and Aeryn in Farscape).
