Apparently, historical comments on Spartan brutality didn't just refer to their treatment of Helots. They were also 'brutal' as in 'brutally hot.'

Far be it from me to not appreciate the sexiness of GB as King Leonidas (or sexiness of Richard Egan in the same role in the 50s epic 300 Spartans). My history appreciation just shot way up.

Date: 2007-01-05 11:46 pm (UTC)I was enamored with that story back when I was in middle school. I loved Greek history and I guess the whole noble fighting to the death thing struck a chord with me. I still remember the book I read the story from over and over having the poem "Leonidas is Combing His Hair" in it.
