dangermousieI am going away for a week and am taking (in addition to Farscape) Nobuta Wo Produce, Boku Dake No Madonna, Nana (the anime) and Magicians of Love. At the very least. Since I am going to have internet DSL in my room, you can expect a lot of posts on those, for good or ill :D
In other news, no more Hana Yori Dango promos for me before going to bed. Last night I had the weirdest dream since I was a little kid (when I dreamt I was being interrogated by a giant grasshopper). I dreamt the JE (a Japanese media giant) was actually run by aliens who used all their boyband activities as a cover for the fact that they secretly ran dwarf mines under the earth’s surface. What are dwarf mines? No idea. Not only that, but apparently the boybands are part of their nefarious plan as JE has coded subliminal training and messages in the songs so at a certain time, at a given signal, those messages will activate and all the humans will become zombies working in the dwarf mines. Yeah. I think what’s the most bizarre thing about this is that I have never seen a single JE band performance, and I haven’t heard a single JE group song unless it played in the closing/opening credits of a drama (a la Arashi’s Wish in HYD).
In my HYD/MG fever, I have also been watching Dao Ming Si’s part of Meteor Rain. (I’ve seen the other two parts a while back but never got around to DMS’ story because it was so freaking long: 2 hours!)
I am about halfway in and am pleased to note I am enjoying myself.
More specifically, the following things amuse me (Should I cut? Is there anyone on my flist who plans to watch this who hasn’t? Oh well, this isn’t spoilery anyway):
1. I am amused at the fact that even in this little ‘outtakes from MG’ story, poor Dao Ming Si gets a whole heap of angst and hurt/comfort. Nowhere near Meteor Garden levels, but then this thing is only two hours long so there’s only so much they could stuff in there. There is just no luck for that boy, huh? Of course, they definitely know their target demographic as I am slurping it all up with a spoon.
2. Even after two days wounded/sweaty/feverish/unconscious, I am pleased to announce that his hair is as flippy and gorgeous as ever. That’s some awesome shampoo.
3. And that brings me to the hair. Or actually, hair continuity. I am most amused at the fact that even though this is set 2-3 years before the start of Meteor Garden, DMS’ hair is that nice layered cut from the later part of MG, and not the horrifying manga hair of the first few eps (which he supposedly couldn’t do anything about!). No explanation given, either. Considering this is a story which is fixated on how yummy Jerry Yan looks while acting wounded and angsty, and rocking the white shirt and jeans, I can’t say I blame TPTB as that manga hair made me want to poke my eyes out with a rusty fork.
4. Dao Ming Si interacting with the adorable mute girl moppet? Is LOVE. Especially when she makes him do stuff. Because he is like 12 feet tall and is on the run for supposedly killing/almost killing someone (and he did almost beat the guy to death) but here he is getting bossed by this six year old with pigtails. Heeeeee. It’s not necessarily logical or anything, but see point number 3. This isn’t about plot, is it? And once again, they know their target demo because I SQUEE. The girl’s father is crazy though. He tells DMS he doesn’t mind him (this total stranger they found wounded on the beach) to stay in his house because he has nothing worth stealing, but he is totally OK leaving his six year old mute daughter with this guy he knows nothing about? OTOH, I guess it’s not like DMS can run anywhere :D
Of course, this made me think of Shan Cai and DMS having kids of their own and it’s a pretty terrifying thought because they’d be the most insane parents. Heeeee. Their kid will either grow up to be a total battleaxe or just think his parents are insane.

And that made me go look for Jerry Yan pics.

Heh. True. Though he is positively robust when compared to jdrama boys. When I was browsing his thread at AF, they had some article about how he was asked to put on some weight for The Hospital and how hard it was :D

The interesting thing is that that might not be too far off the actual mark. I love these guys the best as actors, but they've all got some pretty awesome personalities, and if you can stomach the absurdly shiny crack...well. See, the thing with being a Johnny's group is that you're more than the average western boyband. Sure, there's music, but come on. Like I really enjoy KAT-TUN for the music (though I have to say, it's not bad jpop). As

I love him as Dao Ming Si, but really, Vic was always my favorite. Hands down.
Oh, Vic is my favorite too, by far (next giant picspam is definitely Vic) but I adored Jerry as DMS *insert giant swoon here* and preferred him to Vic in MG. Now Vic in Mars though? Or Silence? Or Love Storm which I still can't believe I am watching unsubbed? *dies*
