If you've friended me for more than a month or so, you probably know that Max/Logan from Dark Angel is one of my Top 5 TV ships (the other four are John/Aeryn of Farscape, Mal/Inara of Firefly, Buffy/Angel of Buffy and Max/Liz of Roswell. And Helo/Sharon of BSG get the honorary 6th spot). As you can tell, I like my ships canonical and very angsty. Basically, they hit every kink of mine. I even wrote fic and bought the authorized novels just because they finish out the story and M/L end up together. Yeah. Am a geek (am still working my way through fan season 3 script thingy, too). I mean! Hot people! Angst! No touching! Revolutionaries and wheel chairs! Mutual rescuing and burning stares and his kissing her even though he will probably die from it and just...guuuuh. Everything. After I finish Farscape, it's Dark Angel rewatch (I discovered it last year and posted about it much too much, but whatever).

It's one of the rare OTPs that made me cry. Forget cry, made me bawl.

Anyway, without much ado, since youtube is my new obsession,

This one is made by [livejournal.com profile] carrielh and is my favorite:

ah Dark Angel...one of my greatest TV loves...though I was often distracted from Max and Logan in season 2 by Alec(and sad that his potential OTP w/ Asha never got to come through)

I loved Alec. I generally prefer S1 quite strongly: the dystopia of everyday third world corruptness and government repression really appealed (and I missed Logan's Eyes Only fight against corruption which largely was off-screen in S2). I understood why they had to change it to a more horrorish vibe: 9/11 happened. But I still wish they could have done what they wanted (and I wish they weren't cancelled. Ironically, for an even more favorite show, Firefly, which got cancelled even quicker, argh).

Though, funnily, my Top 3 eps are all in S2 (The one where Logan and Max can touch, finaly, for a short time...OMG, I bawled: the moment where he deliberately leans in and kisses her even though the time is up and tells her he loves her? GUUUUH; Berrisford Agenda because of angsty Alec, and the Zack ep).

I loved Alec in S2. Quite fun. With a touch of angst. That was my first exposure to JA and I liked him quite a lot (not as much as Logan who is a lot more my fictional type) but still...damn!

I need to dig out my ML icons.

th ep where they can toucg is also one of the few alec/asha bits...

and yeah, season 1 is better, but i can point to season 2 for my favorite moments, and my favorite character(Alec)

I really really wish the TPTB let Cameron et al do what they wanted with this...sigh.

Re: Asha. I confess I was just happy she'd get interested in Alec if it meant she was out of Logan's hair :P

Logan and Max were my faves but I loved Alec and Zack (OMG, the end of S1 with the donor bit? *dies*) and Original Cindy.

My Zack love threatens my Alec love...I recall actually ranting that nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooo, Max wasn't worth that(and I adore Max)

Asha...they didn't handle her that well at first, but they did later. I think she could have kept Alec in line, but not castrated him or anything(which I think pairing him with Max would have done, if they'd ever gone that route)

Oh yes, Max wasn't worth it. I was screaming at the TV. And like you, I adore Max. She is actually one of my favorite TV heroines (together with Aeryn, early Buffy, Starbuck and Liz Parker. I guess I love tough or persistent scifi girls).

But OMG, Zack. You know, how I said Logan is a total fictional type of mine?He is: the idealist revolutionary, emotionally prickly, willing to die for what he believes in, intellectual? So yeah.

But OMG so is Zack. He is such another type of mine. The whole bit where he keeps telling them not to feel or get attached and it's all silly but of course, he is willing to go through hell and back to protect the escapees himself? OMG. And when he gets captured and torture and he imagines seeing Max? And how he makes himself forget everything but he couldn't forget her?

I just want to take him in and make him rest and stop being so responsible (overly responsible is such a type of mine).

And of course Zack in that S2 ep? This is one of the two DA eps that made me cry (the other is the Logan/Max touching ep). Because Manticore broke him so much, they took away his will, which is always something that was the core of him. I am a rabid Max/Logan shipper, but I confess in Max/Zack scenes I found myself that unusual-to-self creature, a multi-shipper.

In a way it's very dorama. This amazing guy in love with the girl who only sees him as a brother?

Re: Max/Alec. I read that Cameron et al were adamant Max/Logan were the OTP (bless them for it: I hate internal incosinstency a la Buffy. Since they set them up to be the OTP to end all OTPs earlier, it would have been insane to switch). I adored Alec but I got a younger brother/older sister vibe from them.

Oh yes, Zack was so wonderfully, obsessively screwed up and devoted...actually, my current obsession, Yum Moon in "Emperor of the Sea"(I shouldn't love the other man/villain to the point where the hero, much as I like him, is an afterthought) is like him, in a way.

And yeah, Max/Alec were completely brother/sister and that's how the 2 JAs played them, but I had a feeling TPTB were thinking about actually doing a bit of a triangle.

Date: 2006-12-11 05:36 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Apparently NBC (or is it Fox? I am blanking on which channel it was on) wanted M/A (not sure as an OTP or a part of a triangle) and Cameron et al wanted M/L. Cameron had his way, and then it got cancelled to make way for Firefly. The official books are M/L all the way :P (They aren't well written but an obsessive like me bought them and read them).

I do think they were going at least in the direction of Logan assuming M/A. I rememeber Max lying to him that she was with Alec (OMG! The angst! That OTP had more angst than almost any other except John/Aeryn and possibly Max/Liz and Buffy/Angel.)

Gosh, Alec was so not Max's type. He was sort of like a younger irresponsible version of Max. I could in other circs see her with Zack but not Alec. Alec? I think Max was too controlling for him (it actually worked really well with Max and Logan because of the somewhat present age difference and their different strengths and backgrounds. They couldn't boss each other).

Zack was so wonderfully, obsessively screwed up and devoted

Guuuuh. The poor guy. He was just so all sorts of awesome. It's all that control and those incredibly strong emotions undreneath that he can't help but help? And all that nobility? GUUUUUUUH. I hope he found happiness but I found the end of that Zack S2 ep so bittersweet. Because he will live, but so much of what made him the person he was: the ncredible strength, the past, the leadership, the feelings (painful or not) are gone and he doesn't remember it. When he asks Max (looking a little lost) if he knows her? I just BAWLED.

It was Fox. Yeah, they were definately having Logan assume M/A...I loved how much Alec hated it and wanted to tell Logan, but knew he'd partly dug his own grave in that...and yes, what made Alec so great was that he was a worse version of S1 Max, and was able to constantly throw it in her face.

That ep...that ep almost killed me at the end. I'll never stop wondering if Zack would have eventually been "fixed" if the series had continued...given time and his sheer force of will, I suspect it would have happened eventually.

OMG yes. Logan looked like someone hit him when he 'learned' about MA. But yes, I loved Alec's reaction (interestingly, I loved Logan still not being able to stop loving Max, even after that, though I think when he would have found out it was a lie...look out!)

Re Zack: definitely agreed. If anyone could throw off the conditioning, it would be him.

Guuuh, DA had such fabulous characters...*weeps for nonexidtent third season* Though I guess it meant no more annoying Joshua so everything has an upside.

Ah, Dark Angel. I've only seen the first season, when it was airing, but I think something came up (like an extracurricular or something?) that meant I would miss the show every week, and I didn't have a VCR at the time, so...yeah, I should catch up one of these days. And also, Max/Liz is epic, but I must say that I have a soft spot for Michael/Maria. They were one hot alien secondary OTP, that's for sure.

S2 is startlingly different in tone (because after 9/11, first season concept was potentially too close to the bone). I do love some if it something fierce, but overall prefer S1.

Max/Liz? I discovered Roswell last year and would literally watch 10 eps a day, go to bed at 6 am only to get up to go to work two hours later. The only free time I had from watching, I'd post about it on lj and/or write and read fic. I think I was a walking zombie for weeks.

I love Michael/Maria quite a lot (though end of S3 where Maria inexplicably temproarily dumped him pissed me off. I have a whole rant in my LJ about it somewhere). Roswell had its flaws but it was OTP heaven. OK, that's it. This week I am digging out my DA and Roswell icons.

I watched Roswell from when it started airing, and I was in high school then, and I went to a girls' high school, and the WB had just premiered, and all of us would sit at lunch and meta over the previous night's episode of Buffy or Roswell or (god help me) Dawson's Creek. Because we were 14, and dude, that's what we did. It's been quite some time since I've seen Roswell, though, but when I watched it, I was way into the series, big time.

See I was (feels old) in college when Buffy aired. Roswell? No idea, I discovered it on DVDs. My inner 15 year old fell for it madly. *needs to sig out Max and Liz icon*

If you're a Buffy/Angel fan, then you missed season 2 because Fox thought it would be smart to place DA in the same time slot as Angel.

you can find both seasons of DA for about $30 each now, less if there's a sale.

Yay, thanks so much for linking my vid! I'm very glad you liked it, I'm very proud of it myself.

I just discovered Dark Angel this summer and fell completely, head over heels in love with Max/Logan. I just ADORE them. Even with all the convoluted crap that happened in season 2.

It was an amazing vid. I didn't look who made it at first and then I went: wow! I know the person who made it (insofar as you know people on flist :P) and they are incredibly talented!!!

I discovered DA last fall and also went head over heels for M/L. Even the S2 stuff only added fuel to the fire (I mean, no touching! The bit where they 'touch' hands through the glass? *wails*)

I need to pull out my DA icons.

Hee! No, I didn't know that Max/Logan was one of your OTPs. Weren't the actors engaged at one point? A TV couple who were in love in real life... Aww! They don't come along often.

Can I just say that although it's been a long time since I watched any Farscape -- so long that I often can't remember the plot of the episode you're discussing -- I'm enjoying your recent posts about the show, particularly the Crichton/Aeryn thoughts. My favourite TV couples tend to fit the "stoic, emotionally closed off lady meets playful, emotionally open dude" profile and Crichton/Aeryn is no exception. That probably explains why I'm still watching Veronica Mars too. :) Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that it's nice to have someone gushing about sci-fi on my friends page.

Yup, definitely one of my OTPs. So angsty and hot, how could they not be?

Yes, MW and JA were engaged at one time. Which is cute.

And thank you re: your kind words re: my Farscape posts.

oh the nostalgia...*sigh* thank you so much for these. had your post in my favorites for quite some time and today I found myself in a DA mood.

good vids all, but my fav are the 2nd and 3rd one - really good stuff. thanks again!

I must admit when I first heard about this show - there was much buzz about it when it premiered - I didn't really like it. gave it a good try but after a handful of episodes I gave up watching it regularly. it wasn't until that episode with Jensen Ackles in S1 that I got hooked and went back and watched S1 from the beginning and well... got obsessed with it during the hiatus and couldn't be more excited for the S2 premiere. but after - yet again! - a handful of episodes I kept wondering where the magic went?!!

adding Alex as a regular was a win, but the character of Joshua would've been fine with me for afew eps, not the whole season. plus the whole mutant arc? meeeh. they never won me over with that story-arc; well not until that episode when the mob somewhat crucified this one person connected to Alex - that's when I felt the show went back to it's roots of a broken society, but alas it was too late to save the show from cancellation.

I hate *hate* FOX for meddling with it. it strange though, that they felt the need to change it so dramatically... I'm aware of the reasoning behind it but still, the change in tone was pretty severe. it was a show about hope and finding life amidst chaos and repression, but mostly about the search for peace, for love... these are themes shouldn't have been feared they might offend anyone! but still, at least we got 2 full seasons with a grand finale. that's sth not common nowadays, especially with scifi shows.

and yeah, Max/Logan are way up there on my list alongside Max/Liz, Buffy/Angel, ...

You are welcome! And yeah, the drastic change was so unnecessary and jarring, but still, a really good show.
