Summary: Molly Weasley worries.

Molly Weasley prefers to worry about things she can handle. Small, manageable things.

She worries about Arthur. When will he stop getting entranced by the Muggle junk? And it would be so wonderful for him to get a better salary, as what they have is barely enough. He has been promoted, but there is no pay raise to go with it, and so she is out of her mind with stretching it to cover their needs, but it is better than to think of him cornered somewhere, a Weasley, a blood-traitor, Order member, and never coming home to her again.

She worries about Bill, her eldest, who has always been the model son but who has now chosen a wholly unsuitable Frenchwoman, one-quarter Veela, who has no manners and cannot cook. It is worse than his dreadful hair and she worries she will not be able to stop it, because then she doesn’t have to imagine him apparating and fighting, on Dumbledore’s orders, and being hit by a stray curse, extinguished in a moment, his haircut now immaterial and his taste in women moot.

She worries about Charlie, who is so far away from home. What kind of a grown-up job is taking care of dragons, anyway? And everyone knows dragons are dangerous. Who knows what injuries he can sustain, she frets, hours at a time. Then she doesn’t have to remember the boggart-Charlie, lying there on the dusty floor of the Grimmauld Place, eyes blank, body unmoving, forever lost to her.

She worries about Percy, her studious son, her former joy, who has shouted unforgivable things at Arthur, and has broken up with the family, and will probably never come back into its fold. Because then she can stop wondering when the Death Eaters will break into the Ministry again, because it's only a matter of time. Only this time Percy will be there, to be buried in the rubble, to die still unreconciled.

She worries about the twins (though not as much as she used to, she’ll admit). They are living on their own, and what if their business fails, and she knows some of their experiments are dangerous, she’s seen them first hand. It's better than seeing them die like her brothers, who also used to laugh and share jokes, and fight for the good side which didn't save them. She lives the dread that she will see the Dark Mark over the shop next time she comes to visit them.

She worries about Ron, who is growing much too fast, and how can she possibly afford to keep him in clothes, and he really should have more drive, like Bill, and like Charlie, and Percy before him. Then she can banish the thought that Ron is Harry’s best friend, and whatever will come after Harry will likely come after her Ron as well.

And Ginny is entirely too strong-willed and stubborn, and how did she pick up Fred and George’s mischief-making tendencies? Weren't two trouble-makers enough? And now she is dating Harry and a small, selfish part of her is wishing that it was anyone else, and she remembers hearing of her daughter lost in the Chamber of Secrets, forever gone.

And so Molly Weasley worries. She worries about Arthur and Bill and Charlie and Percy and the Twins. She worries about Ron and Ginny. She worries about all of them, all the time, because as long as she does, she doesn’t have to think about herself, all alone, no one to worry about.
