This is an Indian movie that deals with the start of the 1857 rebellion against the British in India, which was started because the "native" soldiers believed that the new cartridges that they had to bite through were coated with pig and beef fat.
The movie is about Mangal Pandey (Aamir Khan), the sepoy who started the rebellion by shooting his commanding officer. It also involves his best friend, a British Officer (played by my fave Toby Stephens) who falls in love with a young widow he rescues from the suttee (Amisha Patel). There's also a hooker played by Rani Mukherjee. It's a period flick, with fighting, principles, and star-crossed lovers. What's not to like? It's opening in August.
Here are the pics, behind the cut:
Toby and Amisha pursue their star-crossed (not to mention culturally-challenged) affair:

Pets the angst:

Mangal and Rani's character celebrate the festival of Holi (which involves throwing colored paint, as you can tell):

More of the celebration (I think she is Toby's sister):

And now she and Rani have a party and a dozen of femmeslash fics are born:

Awwwwwww:

Amisha Patel, as the young widow Toby Stephens loses his heart to:

If she doesn't want you, kneel to me:

The hooker co-heroine (presumably with a heart of gold):

A really pissed-off Mangal:

Less pissed off:

Soldiers on parade:

Friends:

Not so friends:

You think he's in trouble? Naaaaaah.

Also, Kisna is the best soundtrack ever.
