Faith episode 5 - first half

Since I am travelling, my viewing/posting time is extremely limited so this covers only the first half of episode 5. I will try to get to the rest ASAP.
I think I love every scene which involves the King and Ki Chul because the King is so smart and Ki Chul is so assured and their battle for power, as well as souls and minds (that nighttime discussion between them about gathering hearts - chills. Chills of how amazing this is) is so gripping - the King has no power, no support but to see him do well with what little he has? Wow. In some ways, the situation between him and Ki Chul is the situation in which Dam Duk was in Legend - a powerless, brilliant prince, trying to do something with nothing. He is nowhere near the man Dam Duk was (yet?) but I love the parallels. Legend is, after all, arguably my favorite kdrama ever. And in this scene, the verbal and mood balls fly so fast in the air, it's like an experienced juggling group. And I loved how Eun Soo got in the middle and in Ki Chul's face (and what drew her out was danger to her patient) and totally discomposed him. I love you, Eun Soo!

And then the reaction when she is safely out of sight and the way she collapses into Jang Bin's arms and he tells her she was an overachiever. If I was into uncanon shipping, I'd so be riding this train (yes, I realize I am mixing my metaphors).

Choi Young trapped in his memories. And we do learn that the ninja girl was his girlfriend and that she killed herself, most likely out of guilt for their commander dying. The thing is, that is Choi Young needs someone like Eun Soo - someone warm, immediate, and not bound in the least by rigid and (to her) antiquated notions of honor. She would never kill herself to atone for dishonor when there is someone she loves out there.

He is having another seizure. It's pretty clear he has no will left to live.

Yet another of this drama's wonderful discussions, between ES and JB when she tells him she is great at surgery but she doesn't like patients (she knows how to heal illnesses and not people) and he points she is terrified of CY dying because of her. I do think part of the story will be her learning to enjoy caring again.

Yet another scene that gave me chills and I love how the King managed to maneuver KC into not harming ES...

This scene! I love that when she tries to inspire CY to live, she doesn't talk about the world being wonderful, she talks about it being painful but everyone enduring.

And then he goes into cardiac arrest and she flips, doing anything to bring him back. Few points: (1) Kissing! Yes, I know it's CPR, I don't care. (2) He told ES exactly what he told his dead girlfriend about staying by him so he'd protect her. (3) How shoujo is it that her tears bring him out of the frozen land of death (which looks pretty awful btw) - they are not being subtle, are they? Her tears and her emotion crack his frozen shell and return him to the warmth of the living. Oh, drama, why so good to me!
