I just watched The King and the Clown.
Wow.
Wow.
It's just as awesome as everyone said it is. Gorgeous, and clever, and funny, and heart-breaking. There was sobbing at my house. I will do a proper metaish post once I've processed it all. It's a period piece, and a character study, and a movie about politics, and a love story.
OMG.
The only draw-back is that my relatively mild thing for Lee Jun Ki is now far from mild and I want to get my hands on everything else he's been in. Because he totally broke my heart. The scene where he puts on that last puppet show, retelling what Jang-Sang said, and he's slit his wrists is...OMG. And the night befoe Jang-Sang's execution when he spends the whole night repeating 'please spare him' OMG. It's interesting because he is very 'girlish' in being timid and needing protection and shy, but when it comes to Jang-Sang's well-being he loses fear. And I also want to know what else Woo Kam-Seong has been in. Because he was amazing.
I have also started The Duelist which has the most amazing fights ever seen, I swear and the best opening sequence ever. And every time Sad Eyes and Namwon fight, it's both a fight and a dance and making love. Amazing. And I loathe the Defense Minister. His relationship with Sad Eyes is incredibly twisted: like a sick, abusive parental relationship. Ugh.
(The movie is about Namwon, an undercover police officer in ancient times, who s investigating counterfeiting and crosses swords with Sad Eyes, a mysterious swordsman who is the Defense Minister's pet assassin. Despite it being really imposiible, they fall in love).
I will have more in-depth thoughts, but for now, I will just share the first thought that popped into my head in regards to this movie:
I saw Kang Don-wan and Oh my God! He is HOT!!! was what literally came out of my mouth. Come on! Legolas hair, dark clothing, angst and that sword! It's like made to be dangermousie-bait.

Date: 2006-11-17 04:43 pm (UTC)I preferred TK&TC too (I haven't finished The Duelist yet so that can change I suppose). It was just all around excellent. It's been compared to Brokeback but except for the fact that the two protagonists are men who are in love with each other, I didn't really see the similarity. No sheep and a heck of a lot more entertaining :P
