My Girl, how can you do this to me?
Nov. 15th, 2006 12:22 amI have just watched the rest of Episode 14.
FRELL.
FRELL.
FRELL.
I am crying so hard I can barely see and I think I need to type this up before I go into the street and murder someone out of sheer emo.
I have no idea how coherent this is, because I am way hyped up. Sae-Hyun and Grandfather have joined characters like Yukari and Shin's Father in my blind unreasoning hatred for them, only times 11.
FUCK.
Seriously, I have NO words.
Sae-Hyun I hope you burn in some sort of eternal pit for all of this. When she goes to see Gong-Chan and tells him that if it was hard for him to tear her out of his heart, it was hell for her. Yeah, it was hell for her to wreck his life, shouldn't he pity her? You know, EVIL BITCH FROM HELL, it is not about you.
The scene where Grandfather calls Yu-Rin in and reveals he knows the truth and then tells her that she and Gong-Chan can never be and she must go far away and makes her promise to never see Gong-Chan away in exchange for allowing him to see her to the airport? As she is begging for him allowing her that last favor and pleading that she won't let Gong-Chan suspect anything? And he offers her money? Die!
His reason for 'the two of you are impossible?' Because he (Grandfather) loved her so it would be hard to have her around. HATE. Gong-Chan and Yu-Rin were ready to sacrifice their happiness to make you happy, shouldn't you be willing to return the favor? IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT YOU!!!
And what kills me is that while all of this is going on, Gong-Chan is at some meeting and he is secretly flipping his phone open, looking at the picture of the star Yu-Rin sent him, with 'if you want' and looking so happy.
OMG, Yu-Rin going to her room and getting prepared to lie to Gong-Chan and she can't bear it and she is not allowing herself to cry but small whimpering noises are escaping her, and then he knocks and she puts on game face, and smiles experimentally at the mirror but her eyes are dying? OMG.
And so Gong-Chan leaves her at the airport and they hug and he waves to her and walks away and she is looking at him because she'll never see him again and OMG. I was crying so hard.
But if I thought that was angsty? Just you wait. Because then she and her father are at the international airport instead and she looks shell-shocked, a zombie, and then she gets to the point where she has to fill out her departure card and she remembers Gong-Chan and her filling it out during their pretend elopement and how he promised next time he'll go with her and she jut collapses and she isn't even crying, she is just more than that, she is utterly gone, and her father (who has no clue what's going on) is clumsily trying to comfort her...OMG.
But it gets worse.
Because Gong-Chan is at the office and he is trying to call her but she is not picking up so he is flipping out and decides to go to the airport to look for her. And as he is about to walk out, his Secretary can't stand it any more and tells him the truth: Yu-Rin is at the international airport, and Grandfather found out the truth and she promised never to see Gong-Chan again and Gong-Chan just runs out of there, 'I must see her again' and he is just devastated and panicking and falling apart and I am a bit blurry on that scene because I couldn't see very well.
And he drives like a maniac to the airport and he just ditches his car, not even parking it, and he runs in and he is looking for Yu-Rin, but he misses seeing her as she is walking through the control point (EVIL) and he can't see her anywhere and he is totally losing it and he can't even breathe or think and his whole world is narrowed down to his desperation and he can't concentrate and he is looking at all the flights that are listed as departing and OMG, he is in the middle of the crowded airport but he is completely heedless, and he is half-sobbing 'Please...Please...Please' and the Secretary is there and she is looking so sad for him and he is just completely lost and he is 'I must follow her' and 'where is my passport...is it at the office' and I think he is about to shatter into small pieces on the floor. He clearly can't even think at all and he is just stripped of any control or anything resembling sanity, really.
And the Secretary tells him Grandfather would know where Yu-Rin went (I have no idea if it's true. I think she is suggesting it just so to give him at least some sort of a goal so he won't go to pieces) and the next scene?
KILLS ME THE FRELL DEAD.
Because Gong-Chan is in front of his Grandfather, and the Grandfather is telling him to forget Yu-Rin because how could Grandpa welcome her back (once again, not all about you) and OMG OMG OMG OMG.
FUCK.
Gong-Chan completely breaks down and he collapses on is knees in front of his Grandfather, and I don't think it's a dramatic gesture, it's because he literally cannot stand (and OMG, the total self-abasement) and he is begging and he can only choke out "I...Yu Rin" and he is CRYING. Gong-Chan is sobbing, and it's totally unpretty crying and he...
FUCK.
And his Grandfather just looks on.
I HATE YOU GRANDFATHER. I HOPE YOU TAKE THE WHEEL-CHAIR ENABLED TRIP TO HELL.
(A side note, I have to point out that this crying scene is so effective because unlike a Karan Johar movie hero, Gong-Chan doesn't cry much. The only other time we saw him cry was when he thought his Grandfather was dead in ep 3. And it wasn't this total, utter loss of control. That is why it's so effective, so devastating).
And then Grandfather collapses and I CHEER.
I hope you DIE, evil old man, except that is one burden Gong-Chan doesn't need, thinking that he killed his Grandpa.
FUCK.
And then two years have passed and we see an older Gong-Chan (who looks hollow really, muted) driving back home from work, and it's snowing. And he looks out from the window of his car and murmurs 'Happy Birthday, Yu-Rin' (OMG, poor man! He must have been destroyed all over again every time it snowed in the last two years). And OMG, there is Yu-Rin, back as some sort of a tour guide, being totally luminous but he is looking sideways so he doesn't see her, and I literally scream at my TV: 'Turn your head turn your head turn your head!'
And Gong-Chan is just so defeated and quiet (no sign of Grandpa, dare I hope he is dead?)
P.S. Did I mention EVIL BITCH Sae-Hyun is back to see how everyone is doing? Why didn't someone murder her yet?
FRELL.

Date: 2006-11-15 05:43 am (UTC)I told you it would get angstier. And the time jump! I can only abide by time jumps in my Asian dramas, and this one does it so well, believe me. See, somehow, SH is worse than Hyorin and all the other crazy ex-girlfriends because her selfishness drives her to the offensive. She's actively trying to break them up, whereas the other ones just kind of present themselves as alternative choices to the heroine. And the grandfather...oh, he makes some rash choices, believe me. GC goes a little bit mad in the next couple of episodes, though, and...well, you'll see. XD
