My Girl: shipper confusion abounds
Nov. 9th, 2006 10:34 pmMy Girl continues to be awesome, two and a half eps in but I am so TORN!
It almost never happens when I want both guys in a triangle to get the girl but here I am soooo torn. Gong-Chan/Yu-Rin are totally LOVE. Gong-Chan is adorableness times seven: he is so devastated for his grandfather and he is actually very kind (love the scene where she falls asleep in his rom and he actually imagines touching her face and tucking his jacket around her and then horrifiedly snaps out of it. But still lets her stay and actually turns the temperature up so she'd be more comfortable). And they will be perfect together because no matter how outrageously she acts, he is just amused and doesn't really get annoyed (the scene where she gets 'revenge' on him by pretending he is her deadbeat boyfriend is hilarious. And he is just amused, even though everyone stares at him. He is not shy in the least). He is the too responsible, overburdened guy who didn't have any fun.
BUT BUT BUT.
I am totally CRUSHING on Jung-Woo. He is just funny and cool and OMG, the thing gets twice as fun when he is around. I just can't help but fall for fictional bad boys with a sense of adventure and a sense of humor. And he and Yu-Rin also have awesome chemistry. And they have fun together and he rescued her and he has that grin. And the scene where they are together after the car chase is priceless. And so is the bit in the airport where she helps him 'escape' his mother's servants. And he gives her his phone number written on a bad-aid. It's just...how can she resist?
Maybe it's because I am having Ling flashbacks but I am SO TORN.
But then I also think Gong-Chan and Jung-Woo have great chemistry together. Love it when Gong-Chan takes Jung-Woo back to his room (not that way, though if this show was more known here, there would be tons of slash fanfic) and the whole vibe there...
To illustrate my confusion and the dorama's awesomeness, here is a vid about the love triangle in the dorama:

Date: 2006-11-10 02:40 am (UTC)Also...add GTO and Gokusen 2(I must create more Hayami Mokomichi fans...I must...my new mission) to your list. *nods*

Date: 2006-11-10 02:45 am (UTC)I was a bit iffy on GTO and Gokusen2 but seeing your write-ups, yup, they are on the list. Considering I also recently added Sound of Colors, Love Generation, Dragon Zakura and Stand up! to it and I have dozens of other dramas, I'll never be done. Which is how I like it.
I need more Taiwanese ones though because the only ones I have I haven't seen or am watching that aren't currently actively being subbed but are done are Sound of colors, At Dolphin Bay and Prince Turns into Frog. Need...more...recs (twdramas are my faves).

Date: 2006-11-10 02:55 am (UTC)It created my crush on Hayami Mokomichi, resulting in my getting 3 more doramas he's in and adding 2 to my "to acquire" list last night.
It also moved Mars up on the "to watch" list, though really, the only reason I haven't watched it yet is that I'm not quite up to a 20+ hours angst-fest, even though it and Musashi are what made me decide to check out doramas.

Mars is amazing and the eps are only 45 minutes long, so 20 ep thing is misleading :)

Date: 2006-11-10 02:58 am (UTC)Dude, why didn't you say so?
I'm going to shamelessly plug THE OUTSIDERS (2002) and its sequel, THE OUTSIDERS II (2004), which has the honor of being the only sequel of a drama that I think actually matches up to the original. I'm not sure if you can find it with subs on e-bay, because I know the subbing group that did the first series stalled somewhere at episode 8 or 9 and I know that no one subbed the sequel. They are so, so, so good.
Basically, there are these three boys who are childhood best friends and they're from the "wrong side of the tracks" and they grow up and they're local ruffians and get sucked into the Triads. And then there's this girl, Xiao Yen Zi, and Ah Hao, who is the leader of the three boys, is in love with her, and she's the girl next door and she's nice and sweet and plays the piano and her father hates him and they run away and there is AAAAAANNNGST. And violence and pretty! Oh, so much pretty.
And the second series is so freaking unbelievable, because it takes place during a time jump that occurred in the first series, so it's almost like FANFIC but not, because it is CANON.

*weeps*
Why did I take Welsh and not Mandarin in college?

Date: 2006-11-10 03:02 am (UTC)Hardsubbed versions of episodes 1-8 (there are like 20 episodes in the whole first series, I think) are available here, and they are being encoded as the subs are being completed.

Must. Rewatch. I've rewatched it before and certain bits are worn out to bits (the 'open your eyes' scene for one) but need to watch again!

Date: 2006-11-10 02:57 am (UTC)okay, well, he's tied with Da Ye because Da Ye is normal and probably has like four sisters who teach him how to be nice to girls
See, I liked Da Ye a lot but it was never any competition for me because
a. Ling!!!!!! I mean, Vic in motorcycle gear and with the teasing and the angst? Forget it. My favorite dorama hero ever.
b. Da Ye did get an OTP of his own.
c. Da Ye and Qi Luo were so incompatible. He was too quiet for her.
d. Ling/Qi Luo=Ultimate OTP.
But here, I am VERY torn. It's confusing :(

Date: 2006-11-10 03:04 am (UTC)Also, yes, I was glad Da Ye got an OTP. He needs love too! I mean, they made him compete against Vic, in leather, ON A MOTORCYCLE! Unfair, I tell you.

Date: 2006-11-10 07:58 am (UTC)He sure is pretty ... I loved the scene where he is escaping that Italian ruffian ... I mean hello ... who will sleep in his Calvins and a dress shirt after a one night stand??? It was hilarious :)
