Whoa, Goong really IS popular. It's getting a Stateside release with (I assume) good English subs on November 21. It's now titled Palace: Princess Hours.

It's going to be pricy, $140+ at B&N website Click to see pterry pic of cover and $100+ on amazon. But oh boy, I wanna. I will finally get a good official version with good subs. YAY!

Do you have a region free player?

Borders sells it much cheaper, as well with YesAsia.com :)

i think its like $80, give or take?

i know yesasia is like $79.99 (yeah like a cent less than $80 -- hehe) and its free shipping.

i'm very tempted because i love that drama to bits, but it will mean that i wont be able to watch Hero, Sleeping Forest, Sapuri, My Girl etc.. etc.. .

:(

The Malaysian version which I bought has fairly good subtitles (some odd word choices, but mostly good when I spot-checked it) and is much cheaper. Only thing is, it's Region 3, so you have to have a region-free dvd player to use it anywhere out of that region.

I don't have a region-free player though it's on my New Year's gift to self list...I am just totally giddy about this getting a US release :)

Where where? I've seen some links to episodes at the doramas LJ community, but I was wonderig if there's a place with torrents of the whole series.

I'm also looking for some dorama recs *hint hint*, I've watched several Takuya Kimura ones, Kamisama mou sukoshi dake (Takeshiiiii *dies*), the summer I spent in Japan I watched there a very fun one called Nurse no Oshigoto (whose download I haven't found :( and the japanese dvd edition doesn't come with subtitles, alas)... and some Korean and Chinese ones that aired on a local tv station a couple of years ago (too bad that station was shut down last year, *cries*)

Oooooh. I am not sure about torrents for the whole series (it's 24+ hours so a torrent would take forever), but if you join [livejournal.com profile] jdramas and click on goong tag it should have dls for all the eps.

Recs.

If you want complex and angsty, Korean dorama 'A Love to Kill' is amazing. And is my number 3 dorama ever.

The best dorama I've ever seen, hands down, is the Taiwanese dorama 'Mars' which is romantic and funny and angsty and has my biggest dorama OTP.

If you like romantic and angsty and cool, there is Taiwanese Meteor Garden which is really famous for a good reason, and Japanese 'Forbidden Love.'

Funny/romantic ones are Taiwanese 'It Started with a Kiss,' 'Smiling Pasta' (though that one is still being subbed), Tokyo Juliet (ditto but I love the leads), Korean 'Full House.'

Silence is excellent and romantic but very depressing.

I don't know if 'Pride' is one of the ones you watched but it's a Kimura one that is my favorite except for Mars.

Then there are Kurosagi, and Hana Yori Dango (a Japanese take on the same manga that is the basis for Meteor Garden. I prefer MG) and the angsty romantic Tatta Hitotsu No Koi (Japanese and currently running).

I could go on and on...
There is Japanese 'Gokusen' which is just funny.

Btw, I cannot emphasize strongly enough how AWESOME Pride and Mars and Meteor Garden and A Love to Kill are. And Goong. Though it's less angsty than those, IMO...

I've seen Pride and it's awesome indeed!!!!!!!! I should totally rewatch it while I wait to "acquire" those others you are mentioning so enthusiatically!!!

I also love 'It Started with a Kiss' but that's more of a funny one (though romantic) than angsty, though it does have some delicious angst *uses her ISWAK icon*

But seriously, most of the ones I've seen so far (with the exception of Peach Girl) ranged from 'good' to AWESOME.

I'd rec Love Contract because it has amazing OTP with angst and chemistry and Best Kiss Ever (only close contender is a kiss in Goong) but it's half OTP amazingness and half not-so-amazing stories of OTP's friends so I am torn. But Mike He (http://dangermousie.livejournal.com/514679.html#cutid4) who stars in it is the hottest thing ever or near it.

Btw, I love Forbidden Love with a scary level of love, but it does involve a teacher (26 year old woman) and student (17 year old guy) romance so if that's something that bothers you, stay away. But it's SO good.

Mike He is guuuuh HOT! *fans herself* Oh my!

I also love "funny" as much as angsty... so I'll totally chech "I Started with a Kiss" as well!

Agai, thanks a lot for taking some time to recommend me all of this AWESOME doramas, my download queue is already full of them *hee* I can't wait to start watching them all!
