Tatta Hitotsu No Koi ep 4
Nov. 7th, 2006 12:34 amHow can this dorama keep drawing me in so much? I am just as desperarely in love with it as ever (and hey, shock, I cried again). I really think so much of it is due to the desperate, young earnestness of the leads. And the treatment. The story, in its broad outlines (rich girl, poor boy, hints of future doom) is a well-worn one, but it's the way it's dealt with, the way the characters feel real, that really makes all the difference.
In some ways, this is a resting space after all the giddy glee of ep 3. And I think we are going to need it.
When the ep opens, Nao and Hiroto and Ren are all hanging out, and they are very happy in their quiet shy way.
But not for long.
Ren gets very ill when out with Nao because she lets him play bball and we have the horrible scene where she explains her role to Hiroto and he loses it. He actually scared me and he throws a few things and yells at her. And he yells at her that she knows nothing about sickness and what are they, just a rich girl's volunteer work (he really is still so insecure about their difference in status) and I can understand his rage and worry so well. He really loves Ren so much. But I want to smack him for yelling at Nao. He is going to be SO sorry.
Argh! And then Nao is still waiting outside to make sure Ren is OK and the boozy Hiroto's mother tells her to go away and lies to her Hiroto already has a gf and Nao believes because she feels so vulnerable at the moment and she saw him with his ex. Damn. I didn't mean it, show. Don't give my OTP angst!
His mother is horrible. Yeah, fine, Nao is out of Hiroto's league normally, but he is allowed to dream and be in love and be young. Dammit, what is wrong with you, woman?
So we find out what disease it was Nao had. Leukemia and she had a bone marrow transplant from her brother (go bro!). What do you want to bet she is going to have a relapse (notice the ominous 'if nothing recurs in 5 years she'll be OK' that Yuki mentions).
Fuck.
I don't want her to die. For her own and Hiroto's sake.
But Yuki explains it all to Hiroto and Nao's spontaneity makes sense. And Hiroto, who is now feeling so guilty for yelling at Nao, is crying a bit and when Yuki tells him he is the first guy Nao loved,he asks 'why me?' It's a huge thing of course, but Hiroto, come on, have faith in yourself!
And we find a bit more about Hiroto's family. His mom is kinda a slutbag, isn't she? Poor guy. And how do we find out it? Nao's Dad commissions an investigator to find stuff out about Hiroto. And he swears to break them up. I don't blame him though. He is protective of his baby and on paper Hiroto reads like a nightmare. Too bad he isn't even willing to give him a chance.
But OMG. Hiroto calls Nao to apologize and she breaks up with him! Because she thinks he is dating someone else (btw, how much do I love the show for not dragging the thing out with the ex and making it over-dramatic). And he is so distraught. And he tries to stop her and I love how he just runs to her place, heedless of anything but getting to her and explaining. It's such a huge thing for him, so proactive.
Btw, running Kame=HOT.
And then he just waits for hours to see her outside her building because she isn't in and he falls asleep that way (awwwwww). And her mom and brother are there too and he looks up at all of them and the episode ends and you can tell he will try to explain himself no matter what and for someone as retiring as he to bare himself in front of strangers...mmmm. A huge thing. She is really so important to him.
The previews look dramatic.
The secondary couple is OK but I fond Ko completely scary looking and acting like a twit so am not invested.

Date: 2006-11-07 07:04 am (UTC)thats the beauty of Hitokoi, the plot is well worn, but for some reason the chemistry between Kame and Ayase works! i love love love that the writer has done few of the jdramas i like (Long Vacation, Beautiful Life and my OTP everrrrrrr Orange Days ).
and ITA, Kame running = hotness.

I have Orange Days in my gigantic pile of to-watch things but I think it just scooted closer to the top of the list. I have watched only two first rps of Long Vacation which I liked but didn't go over-crazy for, but that was before my Kimura Takuya obsession so I am definitely watching the rest of it really soon.
Beautiful Life is supposed to be very sad though and I don't think I can take angsty Kimura.

Date: 2006-11-07 09:04 am (UTC)There is one long scene in the final ep that will break your heart, there is not much Angst but it conveys so much more (kudos to Kimura for that scene alone).
Long Vacation - watched it and still not sure if I like the OTP. They are cute together but somehow they both are too wishy-washy about their feelings for each other while everyone else (including the love rivals) notice that the sparks are just flying between them. One tip: wait for the end credits to be over, there is still a cute scene after the end credits of the last ep.

Date: 2006-11-15 06:17 pm (UTC)In order to play subs on your computer with the ep though (unless you just want to print them and read them but what's the fun in that) you need to bace CODECs installed on your computer. I recommend CODEC pack located at http://www.cccp-project.net/ Pick the version that fits your computer. Not only will it play any subs, it comes with MPC player that will play any file (I have yet to figure out how to play subs on RP...worst player out there IMO).
You also have to make sure you save both the video file and the sub file under the same name (except for format suffixes of course) and in the same folder.
